Like Wild One suggested, I don't think piston slap is a terribly destructive thing despite what it sounds like. GM's are known for this and they seem to run a long time despite it. If I did a lot of short trips I'd be more concerned, but I have < 100 idle hours and already at 60,000 miles so by my estimates it will wear out faster due to mileage than cold starts. It just bugs me, pay all that money for a new truck and it just ticks and knocks and clatters and pings its way through life. Drives me nuts.

Agreed though, I'm not planning on running 5w-20 forever. This was requested by my mechanic who was trying to help me fix my pinging issue. He said to try and run the "factory spec" and get back to him, well I got back to him and it's not fixing my ping so 5w-30 is going back in a month during my next change. But I'll probably stay with the same brand/formula I'm running now, might make a nice test next winter after my last "no vii" is used up, see if the piston slap comes back.
I've ran enough forged piston engines over the years,to learn to ignore piston slap, bearing knocks and lifter rattles bother me way more then piston slap, lol

Yes, there are many threads here discussing those hemi issues and some users are taking action as an attempt to reduce premature wear and mitigate early failures associated with these deficiencies.

Have you found improvement from using the liquid moly product and are you using a full synthetic oil?

I switched my Tundra to full synthetic oil in about '08 or '09 and never looked back so the Ram has received the same and I added the LubeGard at the last OCI.

I've also been using a Fram Ultra synthetic oil filters that appears to be a much better quality and better suited for synthetic oil than the recommended Mopar filter.

There's lots of info in the oil filter thread or Bob's the oil guy's site.

I'm not more than a backyard mechanic but I've found all this info informative and helpful with developing my own plan to mitigate a premature hemi failure.

I won't know if it was productive for many years. Hopefully, we will still be permitted to continue using ICE trucks for the rest of our time and not be forced into some other pretend green solution such as EVs.

I am a "by the book" sort of person. I use Castrol 5W20 ever since I bought the truck. It had 56000 on it when I picked it up from Metro out on Richmond Rd. Ran like a jewel until last summer and it seemed from one tankful to the next, the fuel economy dropped in half. No fault codes, I replace the map sensor last summer and all 4 O2 sensors ....... twice. Had to return the ones from Amazon because they were pure garbage. Put in a set from Auto Value and it ran a bit better. After doing a lot of reading, the information was pointing to a PCM so I bought one from Flagship 1. Drivability is marginally better.
Everything tests OK, all sensors are behaving properly.
After testing all sensors and replacing the PCM, the only thing left is the teletype machine under the hood. Or at least it sure sounds like one. No miss, no soft cylinders but I'm suspecting there is enough noise to activate the detonation sensors.
I am really upset with myself because I used to be darn good at solving this stuff.
Once the weather warms up enough, I'm going to do a tear down and flush all the oil galleries, new cam, lifters AND a Hellcat pump.

That's most unfortunate, I recall your sudden mileage decrease without any explanation.

Have you read the LubeGard poll thread?
There's some interesting stories but the stats speak for themselves.

30% claimed that LubeGard cured their tick.
46% claimed improved but not 100%.

With 76% of users reporting a positive result, I can't ignore the potential for positive results from adding it to my own routine.

Regardless if the noise was a true hemi tick or not, this solution satisfied the majority of users.

It might be worth the gamble to try LubeGard and a full synthetic oil with a better quality synthetic oil filter at your next OCI as an experiment.

At least once before you decide to perform the full overhaul.

If all you have to lose is a few $ and the sounds of your underhood teletype machine, hmmm.

The Fram Ultra oil filters are available from Walmart at about $14.25, the last time that I looked.

The XG-2 won't fit in my truck but the Fram filter I use is larger, better quality, and more suited to synthetic oil than the Mopar recommended filter.

I have a 2010 Police car that I've managed to keep the idle hours relatively low (for Police car) and it's never made a tick, regardless of situation (cold start, hot start, etc.). If I must idle it the hood will always be popped to let excessive heat escape. 94k miles.
