Upgrading the head unit and keeping OEM backup camera

I jumped and ordered a Kenwood DMX7704S with the adapters Crutchfield suggested. Pretty pumped.

Upgrading the head unit and keeping OEM backup camera

Is it possible? I've seen conflicting information on this. The iDatalink doesn't have any tools for keeping the backup camera, but I see there are some other adapters and specific head units support them. Unfortunately, the few threads I've found where people have installed them suggest they...

To Alpine or not to Alpine . . .

I'm of the opinion that going with the upgraded OEM speaker systems is a waste of time and money...it's just a bigger pain in the ass to replace them later, and since we're in this forum, most of us are probably going to end up replacing them later :)

    FCA Cheating on Emissions too?

I'm not particularly keen on being forced to give my truck back either. Hopefully they come up with a more amicable solution.

in middle of install.....need remote wire turn on location asap

You can locate a switchable source from one of those molexes in your pic. That's what I have turning on my MS8.

    Subwoofers

the right 12's will fit fine under the seats and you don't need the seats up--just need tight 12's with low sealed space requirements, and probably some spacers for your seats. I've been running 2x 12" Infinity Kappa Perfects but I plan on switching to Sundowns or Image Dynamics IDQ's if I can...

Sound Deadening the Doors...how much can I fit?

Thanks guys. Looks like I can get a healthy amount of coverage in there. Hopefully it cures my mid-bass woes.

Sound Deadening the Doors...how much can I fit?

So it's been months since I finished my audio install and I find myself constantly thinking about upgrading my component speakers due to the lack of midbass. But--I have yet to sound deaden the doors, so I figure I better give that a go, then maybe fiddle with my crossover settings before I...

    2015 crew cab audio build

I fabbed my own fiberglass box this year with very little woodworking experience and no fiberglass experience. I left pretty detailed images of the process on my build thread (it's in here somewhere). To me, the fiberglassing was easy; I had a much harder time making the MDF frame. In the...

    Wiring of sub/amp

I'm pretty sure that amp's only rated 440rms bridged, so you're going to be stretching it to meet the needs of the two subs. I'd say you'd be better off grabbing an inexpensive monoblock.

Amp and subs combo for your RAM?

I've been running a Hifonics X1500.1D X14 mono sub amp, first on a 15" Image Dynamics IDQv2 and now on 2x12" Infinity Kappa's. I built my system for Sound quality (that IDQ fit in a 1.25" box and sounded incredible) and the Hifonics has worked great for the two years I've had it. I realize my...

Amp and subs combo for your RAM?

I built a custom enclosure running two 12"s. It's probably overkill for an SQ setup, and I have my gains down a decent amount. Two 10's would probably be fine. You can get about 2 square feet total in a sufficiently lifted and sealed glass/mdf enclosure under the seats. I was able to fit a...

    Wykdtr0n's Audio Build

I'm slapping my forehead right now. Moving it up a bit should have been obvious--the kappa's are so thick at the base they butt right into that plastic. Hopefully that will do the trick.

    Wykdtr0n's Audio Build

Also...thanks to everyone who's done a build log before me, and to everyone who helped here. I can't express enough how un-handy I am. Without the pictures and experiences of the people here who have already done all this, I wouldn't have been able to do it myself.

    Wykdtr0n's Audio Build

Final update probably (we all know how that goes. I'm already thinking about switching to a more involved DSP). After a harrowing weekend trying to get ready for a camping trip, everything is in place and working. It wasn't without hitches; on the way up to Lost Lake at Mount Hood the amp...

    Wykdtr0n's Audio Build

So I just went to run the front driver side speaker wires to the door...ugh. There's about 3" of crap between me and the door grommet. Not even sure where I'm going to begin but, it's definitely going to take longer than I thought.

Thanks man...I will try to locate that tonight.

12v switched power for amplifier on

I am running the stock radio, despite my utter lack of love for it :) I haven't had much luck finding wiring charts for the 2015, and I haven't had to rip open the dash yet-I tapped the rear speakers at the door pillars for my signal. I'm also a noob when it comes to a multimeter, but I...

12v switched power for amplifier on

I'm at the stage in my audio install where I will probably be turning things on tonight. I'm wondering what the easiest source is for switched power for my 12v amp on in a 2015 RAM? I know the cigarette lighter is switched, but I'm hoping there's something easier to get to. I've dug around...

    Wykdtr0n's Audio Build

Finally finished the sub box, and I'm stoked! All carpeted, subs in and wired: It fits! The gap...might need grills for the subs, but there's about a 3/4" gap between the seat and the sub. I still need to wire in the terminal cup; I shake too much to solder so I need to...

    Wykdtr0n's Audio Build

Thanks gunner, I've been racking my brain over that. I didn't get as much done this weekend as I wanted, nor did I get the pics I should have because I ran out of light and needed my seats back in. Regardless, the amp rack is all wired and in place; I need to get a permanent mounting...

    Wykdtr0n's Audio Build

I made some decent progress yesterday on the amp rack. The challenge I've been facing is the amount of available space behind the seat, even with the spacer, is very limited due to the two cabin vents and the motor for the rear window (and some other thing that I have no idea about). And...

    Wykdtr0n's Audio Build

That's very likely. Unfortunately, this is where experience in fabrication really counts, and my lack of experience really shows. Hopefully I can work-around it. I filled it in with woodfiller and am going to close any gaps with wood glue and mdf-dust, then plan to epoxy around that. I'm...

    Wykdtr0n's Audio Build

Tiny bit of progress. I used my initial cardboard template to test fit the speaker cutouts and make sure the speakers had clearance in the box. It worked, so I transferred the cutouts to the top piece and glued/screwed it. Only problem--during the fiberglass curing process at some point, the...
