When I change a thermostat I don't drain all the radiator fluid, maybe half. Make sure you "burp" the system after the install to get the air out. I've always liked to squeeze the large upper and lower radiator hoses when filling it back up to try and get the air to move to the top.

Bleed hole goes up, If it has a loose rivet (piddle valve) remove it. Like mentioned undo the upper hose and drain only what is needed to get at the thermostat.

It's a jet 180 t-stat. I believe it has a piddle valve correct me if I'm wrong.

The thermostat in the picture looks to have the piddle valve installed. I always remove the rivet and if the bleed hole is smaller than 1/8" I'll drill it out to 1/8". Placing the hole in the high position.

Ok so just pull that out check the diameter and if not an 1/8" drill it out and then place the hole at the 12 o'clock position

I wouldn't bother unless there was a problem getting air out of the system. If I was installing a new stat then I would prep the thermostat the way I mentioned and install the hole at the top.

I use a Spill Free Funnel Kit to get all the air out of the system. When the T-stat opens, the coolant bubbles up into the funnel, and the air is released. As the coolant replaces the air I just add more coolant. I will be replacing my T-stat tomorrow with a Jet 180, since it is past time for my coolant to be replaced. I have purchased Zerex G-05 coolant (2 gals.), and 8 gals. of distilled water to get this maintenance job done.

I have found it helps removing air from the system. I recommend it simply because I have found it to work for me and I'm passing the tip on to anyone who want to listen.

I installed my Jet 180 Deg. T-stat today, it was a good thing I changed out the old one. My truck had the temp needle pointing straight up when I bought my truck last year. The temp gauge needle pointed just to the left of center after I installed a Flex-a-lite E-Fan. The original T-stat had a black rubber seal protruding out of the center and when I pulled the T-stat out a piece of the T-stat fell off. I am surprised it didn't overheat. Now it should be good for another 5 years.

When installing a 180 Thermostat, is there anything tuning that needs done? Or just install and go?

Plug and play.... It'll just read the temperature as being lower and the PCM will compensate as needed..

Yep, it will lower the "heat" you get the winter. I also get a cel in my car with lower stat.

Yeah the heat won't be quite as hot. And my dad's Challenger gets a CEL for being to cold.

I don't live where it is bitterly cold and I have never thrown a slow to warm code. The difference in temperatures are less than 20 degree's. 203 verses 188 degree's on my truck.
If you stuck your finger in a bucket of 180 degree water could you tell that it wasn't 203dgree's? I believe your conclusion would be it was damn HOT.
