Does anyone know if the fuel gauge sender is like the Cummins version? May even a lead on where to get one for a good price? I've got a bad spot in the sender up near the 7/8 of a tank where the gauge drops to empty and then at about 3/4 of tank it pops back up and works again...

My fuel guage is off too but it does not bother me. I know half a tank is full and my gas light still comes on when low so im good. Not sure on the question though hopefully you find out this could be useful for the both of us.

That might be fine for you but I've got 60 miles between fuel stations, no cell phone coverage... Walking to the fuel station is not going to happen...

Mine's off a little too and I looked into it. I don't know if its "like the Cummins version" because I don't what that means, but I know it's incorporated into the fuel pump and filter IN the actual tank. A pump was around a couple Hundred bucks if I remember right.

I'm almost 100% sure they are not the same. The Cummins sending unit (#4797738) is for a 35gal tank. You should have a 26 on your 1500. And if you look it up on ebay (around $50) they say "for diesel engines only".
You could try pulling the unit out and see if you can clean it if you don't want to buy one.

Unless its a long bed, my 96 Ram 1500, single cab/long bed had the 34 gallon tank. You can get the Airtex E7093M, which is the filter, pump and sending unit for $160 shipped on eBay...versus paying $224 for it at a parts store...

here is the eBay link:

The diesel in tank units do not have a pump in them 95-98 use a mechanical lift pump 98.5 and up use a frame mounted electrical pump and a mehanical lift pump. You can get just the sending unit i bought one for the ram off e bay, removed the unit in the tank and replaced the sender and reinstalled.

Hey mopar, the sending unit are pretty close, your fix should work on the gas engine fuel sending unit, like it worked on the diesel.
