I did a 165 mile trip today and got 19.9 mpg according to the computer - all highway with A/C, no load, drove between 60-70 mph. I took a picture but don't know how to load it from my phone to computer to this site.

I have about 750 miles on the truck.

I didn't fill up after the run so I don't know the hand calculated mileage.

How much different are the computers from hand calculations?

I just went to Daytona a couple weeks ago and going about 400 miles I was showing over 18mpg and hand calculated 15.3. That was running 65mph for a couple of hours and then 78mph the rest on the interstate.

You were probably between 16-17 truthfully.

Well, I can dream.

I was looking forward to my last fill as the Lie-O-Meter was showing 16, and even though I know it is FOS, it was pointing to my best mixed tank yet. Hand calc 13.8, so my "mileage gain" was just a bigger lie from the EVIC:****sweak:

Filled up today with EVIC showing 15.9 MPG and manual calculation showed 12.4 MPG. That is the biggest spread between the "Lie-O-Meter" EVIC and my hand calculations.

I have gotten 20+ MPG's on the EVIC driving like Grandpa but hand calculations has never shown anywhere near it.

I have find out well with me anyway that when I do highway miles the lie-o-meter is about .4 off but when I drive around town it's about 2 miles or 3 miles off.

This may be the reason for the differences. Now if my 19.9 reading is off by 5% that would be 1 mpg - or 19 mpg still not bad. I'm driving from Georgia to Oregon in a few months. I'll track my mpgs.

Why Your Trip Computer Isn

Mark Allen, GM’s director of global energy, mass, and aerodynamics, says some inaccuracy is unavoidable. “The density of fuel varies. We have no way to measure it. Mobil might be different than Shell. Summer gas to winter gas could be a big difference.” And then there are vapor-recovery systems. With modern cars’ sealed fuel tanks, gasoline vapor accumulated in the tank is absorbed by a charcoal-filled canister. Periodically, this canister is purged by the engine. “If the weather is hot, you generate lots of purge,” says Allen. “This unmetered fuel isn’t counted by the trip computer.”

And speedo-odometer accuracy isn't 100%. I believe it is allowed to be off 3%.

As your tires wear, this accuracy changes.

Best I have ever gotten was I think around 13 hand calculated.
I mostly city drive but then when I do make long highway trips I'm usually loaded to the gills and pulling something.

The most I got was 17.4 mpg but when I did it by hand it was 16.9 and I have being keeping up with it every since I bought the truck, I that I'm going to let it go for a while until winter any way and see what kind of mileage I get.

The best I ever got was 17.2 (hand calculated) and that was driving the exact speed limit on a 280 mile trip. It was about 2-2.5 mpg's better than driving 5-10mph over like I normally do.

My 6.4 evic is always off between 1-3 mpg. Best I ever got was hand calculated at 16.9 mpg when the evic showed 18.2

I find that hard to beleive, 4.10 and oversize tires. Fuelly is a good sight to record your MPG.

Past weekend we took the Ram on our normal weekend round trip of 450 miles to our cabin in VT.....got 16.2 EVIC 15.8mpg hand calc'd on way up, decent grades the last 85 miles and we averaged about 70mph......16.5 EVIC and 16.0mpg on way back. This weekend......850 miles to NC one way with 4 bikes on the back, 4 people in the rig and the cap loaded with gear......I anticipate 15.5-16.2mpg......nothing more, nothing less......and I anticipate this 3000mile round trip for vacation will be the end of these ************* Nittos.....what a waste of rubber Nittos are......I got another set of 4 rotting away on rims in my driveway from my Ford......they sucked on that rig too.....but I digress.....

Considering the size of the truck we are talking about - that's pretty good MPG.

You might pick up .25 mpg if you had street tires.

I"m not complaining at all about anything north of 15mpg with my setup......Plus gas is cheap......heck my 2001 Tundra gets only 1.5-2.0 mpg better and is much smaller making 60% of the power.

i was alittle suprised but i didnt find it impossible to believe. i had manually verified the computers mpg accuracy just weeks before this trip and it was within .2 so i do believe the 18.9 was accurate. theres a million variables that can affect fuel consumption and all the stars were aligned that day im sure but never the less its good to know the truck is capable of decent mileage if you dont drive like a idiot.
