Finally got around to doing the in cabin filter modification on my 2012 Ram 1500 Sport Crewcab. Easy mod to do, you'll need an exacto knife or utility knife, the Mopar filter cover part number 68052292AA which is about $12 and an air filter either Mopar 05058693AA $22 or Purolator C25869 $9 at Advance Auto Parts.
***Tip***
Advance has the Purolator cabin filter for $8.99 and Purolator oil filter on sale for $5 even right now part number PL24651. purolator has a $5 mail in rebate on the cabin filters and $6 rebate on the oil filters limit two of each. Great deal but rebate ends 9-31-12
Remove lower glove box by pressing in tabs on sides, you dont have to but to make things easier I removed the upper glove box also by removing the single 7mm screw from underneath dash then sliding usb down to remove from housing. This lets you see better and makes cutting easier.
Use knife to slowly and carefully make scribes along inside of raised plastic lip until your through the plastic, cut straight along the bottom to make rectangular opening. Slide in new cabin filter with air flow arrow pointing down towards blower motor. Install new Mopar access cover and reassemble. Enjoy clean air!!!
