I’m a little stumped on this one...Just took a three day trip with the wife, 4 hours drive on Thursday...drove a lot in town yesterday...and 4+ hours home today.

After being home for 20 minutes a few ago, I started to go pick up the kids and the truck wouldn’t start. Lights were all bright, windows rolled down and up on battery power just fine, but when I pushed the start button it just clicked.

Hooked up a booster pack and it fired right up....still a little sluggish. Drove five minutes away, left truck running 10 minutes, and drove 5 minutes home. I turned it off and it barely started back up. Turned it off again and now it won’t start.

What do y’all think ? Battery...Starter....Alternator...?

Where should I start with the trouble shooting ?

14 volt reading on gauge in dash will rule out alternator, load test on battery will determine if it needs replacing.
Probably a bad cell in battery since it starts with booster, that rules out starter.
Also check battery/starter connections.

Battery is going bad. I like Everstart for the value/reviews.

Load test the battery and clean terminals.

Don't waste time testing, just go get a new battery, it's bad.

Ok....so I just got back from AutoZone. Battery was bad. But while trying to boost it this morning, my CIL popped on. Had them run the codes at AZ and got three.

P1DF3 (twice)
U0140

Can’t find anything on the first one. Anyone got info on these ?

Until you replace that battery you'll probably get BS codes. Had a 2003 suburban that went haywire when it was jumped to get started. Replaced the battery and all was well again.

If you already replaced it then clear those codes and see if they come back.

Can I clear the codes without a scanner ?

EDIT:

(Let the truck set for a couple hours and the light went away).

Good, but for future reference, disconnecting the battery for a few minutes will clear the PCM codes. It doesn't clear any antilock brake codes though.
