has anyone done a swap from a 2018 or newer into a 3rd gen?
I have complete donor is half ton independent suspension, my 3rd gen is a 2006 2500 solid axle.
my question I have is will it run or just be in limp mode forever?
I have been hearing two different things
1) everything will be fine you can just go in and delete all sensors trans and engine can run independent.

2) it will be in limp mode need all sensors in axles.

I will be using all computers, wires and dash from 2018

If you plan on using the dash and computer out if the 2018 you may as well pull the entire engine harness and chassis harness as well as the tipm and fuel pump assembly. Maybe even the fuel tank. May as well put it all in the 06 instead of trying to rig up the old wiring harness

That's the plan but will it be enough with out speed sensors in axles?

You won’t have a speedometer then. May need to look into how to add them

Easier to adapt just the engine and trans combo. Find the PCM from a 2009 2500/3500 5.7 truck. Factory eagle 5.7 in a late 3rd gen body (it's weird, look it up). Then give Hotwireauto a shout. They are now integrating SG retrofit harnesses (for ZF trans) with harness changes. You may not be able to find the 2009 2500 engine harness but your 2006 harness can most likely be modified for the VVT and SRV. The 09 PCM will already have the capability to run both built into it. From there it will just be adapting the trans. Your half ton engine will be MDS capable. You have two choices here:
- leave it alone, default mechanical position for MDS is off and with nothing to trigger it, it won't ever engage
- pull the heads and replace the cam and lifters
Whichever way you go, this isn't too bad a swap because you have a CAN bus vehicle to work with. If you absotively, posilutely have your heart set on the later dash and electronics, that will be the more difficult way to go. Your choice, good luck.

09 2500 3rd gen, that's what I have in my profile pick. If you can't find the exact part you have to figure out if its something you pull from an 08 3rd gen or 09 4th gen 1500. Some day I will learn not to buy vehicles on a transition year.

Gotta love the odd ducks. If I ever happen across an 03 2500 V10 I might buy it just for that reason lol.
