Just purchased a 2018 ram 1500 4x4 hemi 5.7 white. Came with no sport hood scoop option. I have been reading up on the effectiveness of the cold air upgrade but can't justify the $350 if no functioning hood scoops are installed. My question is, if i choose to purchase a new mopar hood. Do they typically need much fitting to get them to align. Is the structure of these after market hoods similar to the factory hoods. Is there any after market companies you would recommend? Is there a style of hood anyone wants to recommend?
Mopar sport hood part # P/N 82211065AJ
Mopar cold air intake part #P/N 82214741AB

Thanks Kenny

The Sport hood is not functional. The scoops aren't open. They are just black plastic inserts.

You have sport wheels, but don't have sport trim?

I'm no expert, but there are threads on here that pretty much say that the hood scoop/ram air mod is pointless. That the way that the air flows over the nose of the truck there wouldn't be much air actually going into the air vent.

I think he has a Sport. The Sport hood is optional. Costs $750 extra for that hood if you order it.

Really? I thought it was standard on the sport...

I had a S & B intake in my 1500 and loved it. Who knows if it actually increases HP but it sounds awesome and seemed to increase throttle response. It pulls air from the fender (factory spot) and had a second intake area that pulled air from the lower engine bay area. Loved it so much I got one for my 6.4

Hey Oliverwoodworker, I know this is off topic but I’ve been wanting to add the lights that go under the rear seat that the sport models have but have been unable to find photos of the hook up. Can you take some photos of the lights and where the hook up (wire harness)?

Sport hood is just for looks. The air intake they sell to fit with the hood is just a waste of money. If looking for the most bang for your buck, look into Vararam or S&B.

thanks ramittome. where do you find s&b air intake? 2018 available? the hood replacement with scoops would be for looks. Thinking something like this one. Too much debris and water would get into the vents. I would most likely block them off. Where does the air intake pull the air in on the S&B or Vararam? Thanks again Kenny

It's silly that the sport version doesn't include the sport hood. It eliminated a few trucks when I was looking

BTW, if you buy from them on eBay you get free shipping. Forgot about that when I bought the last one for the 6.4l (paid $17 for shipping)

I’ve used lots of CAI’s of the years and S & B have impressed me the most. A very high quality product and their tech department is very good. I like the clear lid, makes it look sharp. They have some pretty convincing tech data on their site about HP/torque increases. I know people like to argue that point all day so you be the judge.

Thanks for the photos. Not to be a pain but could you get one of the connector unplugged and maybe one on where the wire comes out of the seat and where the wire comes in from the floor?

Does you sport have the new type side steps that are color matched? If so how you like them?

If you want a true "cold air intake" stick with your stock box and get a drop in. So many thousands of threads on this. The aftermarket intake boxes are crap, I'm not impressed with S&B. I am keeping my stock box, adding a drop in, and cutting out the corrugated section of the intake tube and replacing with a straight tube.

Just my $0.02.

Both the Vararam and S&B can be bought from Moe's or Gotexhaust on here. Both are vendors. Send them a pm for pricing.

Vararam pulls air straight from the from of the truck through the grill. It's more of a ram air system, so the faster you go, the more air gets shoved in there. That's what I have and love it!

The S&B pulls air from around the same as the stock box, but there's an additional piece you can buy that drops a tube down lower to pull air from under the truck.

The factory air box, no matter what you do to it, still pulls hot air from the fender with all the twist and turns. Even eliminating that portion, you pulling hot air from the engine. The other two are forcing air into it not giving it time to"suck".

Looks like they changed it up

No problem. Ask any Ram service tech and they will tell you the exact same thing. I talked to three of them the other day when I was at the dealership looking for a grill. They only sell it so people can buy something that they can make money on that still has a Mopar name on it and be warrantied. It does absolutely nothing for the truck. only thing it does is make you feel warm and fuzzy inside because it has a Mopar name brand on it.

Plus don't forget the fact that you have to remove your heat shield from underneath your hood, so you're stuck with looking at all the bracing under the hood, and risk over time the heat from the engine rising and screwing up your paint on your hood. So yeah I would say that's not worth it to me.

I was waiting for you to say you talked to ( ..... ) which tells me you have no real world experience with this product but again thank you for your opinion about a product you merely "talked" about.
