Hi guys,

I do apologize if this has been asked before (I did spend some time searching but wasn't able to find an answer to what exactly I was looking for), but I was wondering if you guys might know if a set of 35x12.5x20 tires (General Grabber AT2's specifically) would fit on a set of the 20" OEM rims.

I can't recall specifically what year these ones (see picture) are, but I believe they are the 20x9's, but I'm not certain.

I'm looking to run these for the winter.

From what little I was able to dig up from threads it seems like most folks suggest running spacers if you were going to do a 12.5" wide tire, and unfortunately General doesn't have a 20" that is 11" wide.

I may take a gander at the Duratrac's and see if I can find a set of 11" wide ones that may work better if people suggest 12.5's just won't work without spacers.

Pretty sure the rims are 20x9. I explored this option a while back but couldn't find a 35" that would fit width-wise on the stock rim(I think they fit down to 10.5" maybe). I ended up with 285/65R20s

12.50s fit the factory rim no problem. I run 35x12.50s on my stockers with no spacers. But my tires don't measure the full width of a 12.50. Check and see what the manufacturer says the actual width of the tire is

35's will fit the Ram 20x9 rims, but you might need spacers or a levelling kit so you don't get rubbing.

From what Csanders said, it really all depends on the specs of the particular brand of 35's that you're looking at. They aren't all the same exact size or weight & some have a larger tread width than others.

Others who have done this setup can chime in.
Check the tire thread

Granted, I have a 6"lift, but I'm still running the stock 20" wheels.
As mentioned, a lot depends on the actual size of the tires(it can vary quite a bit from the advertised size). I've had two sets of 35's on my truck. Both were advertised as 35x12.5x20. The first set measured closer to 13.5" wide, and would rub the sway bar links at full lock. The second set are right at 12.5" wide, and they clear just fine.

Laramie rims are 20x9

All the other 20" wheels are 8" wide.

I always thought the sport and express chrome clads were 20x9 as well.

So what's the widest tire we can fit? Granted I don't have my stock wheels anymore, but my new ones are almost the same specs as stock. I don't really care about taller, although it wouldn't hurt my feelings if they were, I'd like to gain some width. Will a 295-55 or 60 fit?

That's what I thought as well regarding the Sport polished aluminum 20" wheels.

There are guys on this forum & on the other one that are running 295-60-20's & 295-65-20's on the stock polished Sport 20" wheels. I don't have time to look for the pics tonight but I can find them & post them tomorrow evening.

No worries. I'm just wondering because I've got roughly a half inch between my tire and the upper a-arm. But then again 20mm is .787" and divide that by 2 and you have .3935 so I guess it'll fit!

This is my truck with stock 20x9 rims and 35" mastercraft tires, it has a 2.5" level kit and it only slightly rubs at full lock

What I meant was that the 295's will fit on the 20x9 rim. Whether you have to use spacers or not is another issue that I can't speak to.

Thanks so much for the replies guys!

I've been thinking it over and I think I'm going to go in a slightly safer (and cheaper!) direction.

Canadian Tire has a sale on Duratrac's, so I can pick up a set of 315/70R17's for $284/tire. Then I'm thinking I will throw those on either a set of Black Rock Type D Series 942 wheels (here's a link to them) or a set of Cragar Soft 8's.

The Black Rock's are a -12mm offset with 4.5" of backspacking on the 17x9.

The Cragar's are 0mm and 5" backspacing on the 17x9.

Backspacing and offset calculations still elude me, so I was wondering if you guys have any input on if either of those rim options would work with a 315/70R17 Duratrac.

I feel like either one would work and should have a comparable stance to my summer setup which is 35x12.5x20 Trail Grapplers on Fuel Beast wheels (20x10, with -18mm offset and 4.75" backspacing).

What do you guys think?

Jared

Let me rephrase. I should have been more forum specific

Laramie rims are 20x9

Bighorn chrome clads are 20x8

I dont know what the sport polished aluminum rims are, you need to do a vin check and see...unless you're 100% sure.

In a nutshell..

Backspacing: lay the wheel face down on the floor, lay a 2x4 across the back and measure the distance from the 2x4 to the "hub" of the wheel. The less the distance, the further your wheel sticks out.

Offset: 0mm is the "hub" in the middle of the 9" wide wheel (9÷2=4.5" but usually means 5" bsm because the hubs are ~1/2" thick). Every mm it moves towards the outside of the wheel is + offset... every mm it moves towards the inside is neg offset.

Thats why offset and backspacing go hand in hand.

If you see a 9" wide wheel with 5" bsm... usually a 0mm offset.

4.5" bsm is usually -12mm offset

4" bsm is usually -24mm offset

For your 35s to clear with a 9" wide rim.. safe zone is 0mm to -12mm offset... or 4.5" - 5" bsm.

So yes, either of them will work.

Now that makes sense! Thanks Austin!

I think it will likely come down to price then, as I'm a fan of both wheels.

Sport aluminum wheels are 20x9. Also 35s will fit, I put my tires on the day before I leveled my truck. Not the best way to do it but I did it to avoid waiting another 2 weeks. On stock suspension mine rubbed quite a bit but since I leveled it to 2.1 on the bils 5100 series it only rubs lightly now at a full left turn.
