I'm looking at possibly moving from Georgia to California, possibly before the end of the year. If this happens, I'll be dumping my 3rd gen for a 4th gen CC, 2wd hemi. Would a truck like this be able to pull a 2014 dodge grand carvan on a car dolly (about 4,500lbs curb weight) with a few things in the van, such as clothes, a TV and computer, and other daily essentials. All this stuff wouldn't weigh much more than about 4-500 lbs I'd imagine.

What sort of prep to the truck should I do for this amount of towing? would rear air assist bags be a must? or would that not be enough weight to sag the rear.

What kind of mileage would I be looking at, 10/11 mpg ish?

thanks!

10/11 mpg sounds about right. maybe 13/14 if you drive ot nice.

Should really be no problem for it.

Cool beans, thanks guys. I figured it wouldn't be an issue. Found a really nice Sport for sale an hour away from me. Wish I knew if I was getting that new job or not haha!

Depends on how much stuff you have in the truck also.... and what the payload sticker on the door says. Some 1500s have pretty low payload ratings. The 2WD helps though since it's lighter than 4WD.

I can't remember exactly but I think Uhaul has different size/weight car haulers depending on how heavy a car is being put on. It could be a 1000# or more difference so that may be worth investigating.

A 1500 loaded up with people and things hauling an auto trailer with a car full of things is quite a load for a half ton across the country.

In the cab would be me, my wife and three kids (4, 2 & 4 months), and things to keep the kids busy. Otherwise there'd just be clothes, a tv, toiletries, etc, in the van being hauled. My guess would be van and all weighing in around 5100, plus whatever the trailer/dolly is.

Towing weight wise it won't be an issue. But if you can't use a dolly for the van, you'll have to watch tongue and payload weights as they both add to the same max.
