Where do I need to start looking to see why the 4x4 isn't engaging in the 95 360 I bought.

Is the 4x4 light flashing when you are driving?

Well still no idea what's wrong with it. Any ideas or things I can do to see if I can find the problem. I'm not real mechanical so it might be something simple

Put it in 4x4 and crawl under and see if you can turn the drive line. If you can the t case or t case shifter adjustment.
If you can't pull the vacuum plug off your CAD Start the truck in 4x4 feel for vacuum with your finger over the end of the line.
No vacuum check your vacuum switch and for leaks from switch to CAD. That will get you started. Post back with your findings

Yes they're manual. Its possible its a t case shift linkage but the most likely culprits are all the vacuum components. Switch, lines or CAD

It usually is. If this is of interest to you, you can remove the CAD and put a short piece of fuel line at the end of the shaft to permanantly engage the front axle

Yeah that would suck as a daily. Like rowdy said the vacuum components should be the first thing to check.

It really isn't that noticeable when locked in. 98 and later 3/4 tons don't even have a Cad and I can't even count the number a older dodges I've owned without a Cad. Ultimately its up to you. It will cause u joints and stuff to wear faster but not by a lot

Yea having it "locked in" is not having it in 4x4 while in two wheel drive. These trucks have transfer cases that let the front end spine freely while in 2wd. When you lock the front axle it is basically like all older vehicles that did not have manual hubs but where 4x4. And literly almost everythin new. My friends 2010 JK has it that way. My other friends TJ has it. And my 88 grand wagoneer has that. When the front axle is locked in it is still and open diff so u won't feel any difference driving. U will only have a MPG loss of about 2mpg becuase of the entire carrier rotating instead of just the axles and spider gears. But since our transfer cases disconnect the front from rear it still is in 2wd while in 2wd. I think u should do tht Untill u can find the vaccume probablem becuase that's what it is most likely.
