Hey I have a 98 ram 2wd 5.2, I recently bought a 5.9 RT motor that's in great shape to put into my ram. I was woundering if I'm going to run into any complications with the swap I have all the harnesses for the motor. I'm just worried about my transmission and other components.

I do believe that the 5.2 ECU will not work with your 5.9. Providing that both trucks are autos (pretty sure all R/Ts were), the transmissions will bolt up just fine. I'd say try to find a used 5.9 ECU/PCM thing on ebay or something, you might have to get it reflashed at a dealer.

The harness should be the same as well, everything should plug right in.

The above is right. 5.2pcm will ruin it but lean and lean bad. Get a 5.9pcm otherwise no problem long as you use the 5.9 flexplate not the 5.2

From what I have seen the flex plate u will need. The 5.2 ECM will run the 5.9 but the 5.9 requires more timing advance than the 5.2. The 5.2 ECM is not capable to do he timing advance that a 5.9 ECM can do. Get a 5.9 ECM. I believe u have to match the vin number to the ECM as well. The torque convertor is different too.

What's the difference between a 5.9 and a 5.9 RT?

5.2 pcm will simply run it lean. Visa versa a 5.9pcm will run a 5.2 rich. It's fuel control not timing. 96+ flexplate on 5.2 has no souths vs 5.9 does. Tq converter is the same. 94-95 the tq converter had the weights for balancing but 96 they moved em to the flexplate. Only need the pcm flexplate and possibly intake manifold and injector swap, intake manifold i would do regardless and simony use it as a good time top do the plenum.

No difference between 5.9 and 5.9 R/T from a Dakota except the Dakota R/T some claim had a slight timing advance though i don't really think it did
