I have 5000 miles on the truck now. Over the course of the last 1000 miles, I'm averaging 16.9. That's no towing at all and no highways either.

So you are saying you are averaging 16.9 miles per gallon in a 7000 pound truck in pure city driving?

Exactly......think about where trucks were in 2000-2003ish and what was acceptable. heck the long in the tooth Tacoma platform in 2015 gets worse fuel economy than darn near all the 1/2 tons

My 2001 tundra is a 15-16.5mpg truck with a 4.7L V8 making 240hp.......my 2014 Ram with a 6.4L 410hp V8 is getting similar mpg....in a truck weighing more than a ton more....that is amazing.

My '07 F150 S.Crew King Ranch 5.4 averaged 15-16 on the interstate at 75.

16.9 mpg is most 55mph roads. I live in an area that doesn't have expressways nor do we have big cities. I drive 11 miles to work one-way and that's 10 miles of 55mph

My last tank of mixed(mostly city) was 11.5 hand calc. I keep hoping she'll pick up 1-2 mpg as she breaks in.

Which probably puts you in the MDS wheelhouse for fuel economy based on what I see with my own rig.

I'll chime in with mine.

As you may know I live in Socal and bought my 2500 6.4 in Idaho. The 875 mile trip hime I averaged 16.4 mpg. My truck gets driven after work to run errands and on the weekend. Mostly in our neighborhood with lots of stop signs and lights. Longest continuous fwy drive has been 4 times at about 9 miles each time. With all the stop and go my EVIC read 9.9 avg mpg. It has slowly dropped since I got back from my trip home and have put about 250 miles on it in the 16 days she's been home.

This does not really bother me as I figure at this rate and this type of usage/driving I expected to do I should only have to fill up twice a month at most. The majority of the miles this truck will see will be long distance family vacation road trips where the mpg's should go up into the mid teens.

I think my rig with the heavier 295 65 20s and 3.73s will be a 10-12 mpg around town rig and 15-16mpg highway empty rig. Towing I only have the one test but was a solid 10.5-10.8 in mostly back roads, which ain't too shabby.....

You guys are doing lots better than me.

Best Ive seen is 16 running empty on flat highway.

10-11 around town, NO Hemi-foot. 9 with Hemi-Foot.

Pulling the 24' gooseneck is 9-10 on highway, but it was very 'hilly', lotsa shifting. I think it will do 11 on flat highway with the trailer.

4.10 gears.

If you are getting 9-10mpg pulling hills with a goose neck and 4.10s I would say you are going pretty well. My guess is you are getting 12ish on flats with the trailer and 7mpg pulling those hills and letting the 6.4L breath.

What does the trailer weigh?

Trip B has never been reset. 3,000 miles now and sitting 14.8 EVIC. The EcoBoost was only about 1 mpg better.

My wife took the rig to a horse show yesterday towing only about 4500lbs with only our horse.

She hit a bunch of stop and go highway traffic due to an accident and said even without that due to volume she was only at about 60mph most of the way.......round trip 132 miles, 11.3mpg.

Considering the stop and go and lack of constant 65mph(ish) driving, I'm fine with 11.3mpg even with the light load. With two horses we are usually in the 5500-6000lbs range with the gear in the dressing room, and then a few hundred lbs of gear in the bed under the cap so I'm figuring I'll be living in that 10.5-12mpg range towing that setup and that is more than acceptable for me.

I averaged about 9 mpg towing our 8.5k 3 horse/LQ trailer From Colorado to Florida and back. Drove anywhere from 65 to 75 mph. Found that not using tow/haul allowed 5th gear cruise control. Tow/haul tended to keep it in 4th gear longer and occasionally saw 5th gear pop up. Didn't see much of a MPG difference between tow/haul and "normal". I kept it dialed down to 5th gear max in normal most of the trip, then manually shifted down to 4th for hills. Can't hold sixth at all towing.

She's not a diesel, but very very happy with the towing nonetheless.

That is exactly how I drive my 6.4 and what I also think of the Tow Haul mode. Just easier to maintain the truck up in the rpm's using that
little + / - button on the shifter. :favorites13:

Ditto here. I think the tow/haul is calibrated for something much heavier than my usual tow. If I pulled heavier I might be more inclined to use it.

Headed up to the cabin with 1800lbs of hickory flooring......water damage to our ash floors.....long story....anywho....13.5mpg with 1800lbs up the mountains.....225 miles at 65-74mph, not babying it....up the mountain passes I was at 69-70mph

Then 225 miles back home empty.....15.7mpg not babying it at 70-74mph.....

Very pleased with that on these tires....no tunes 100% bone stock drivetrain and 87 octane.....
