You buy a 2500 or 3500 based on the job you need it to do. If you don't tow or haul anything that benefits from an HD truck, then it's a waste of money to buy one. If you do tow or haul something that benefits from an HD truck, then it's a waste of money to buy a 1500 ;)
Kind of. When I purchased my 2500 in 2016, all ram 1500’s on the lot were more expensive, small crew cab beds and almost no 4x4. Paying more for fuel but less out the door. Current hobbies benefit with towing capabilities so supper glad I have one now. Something to think about. The future.

You would lose a little jumping to 6.7 but stay away 4.10 gears and you should be ok as long as you stay with 3.75 are so.

First - why not? Better ground clearance without a lift, solid front axle, stronger gear sets. Depending on where you're living, these are things you definitely need to consider that don't have anything to do with towing.
Second, as he said I think in his first post, it's cheaper to insure for him.

There's plenty of other reasons to own a big truck that don't have anything to do with towing. I had a PowerWagon for 5 years, and now I've got a CTD. Before the Wagon I had 2 different F350s, an F250, an older Ram 2500, and a GMC 2500. I've never owned a half ton truck, and I don't regularly pull anything at all. I do OWN trailers that weigh over 5k lbs, and depending on the year I might pull them once to 10 times a year.
To each his own.

I also have the 50 gallon tank which is a great feature to have.

Off topic, but do you have the 6.4 gas. If so, how or where did you find a 50 gallon tank upgrade? I'd love to find a 50 gal tank to fit my 2022 power wagon! Maybe it's only possible with a long bed truck and won't fot a 6'4" bed?

Thank you

Factory option on long bed. There *may* be an aftermarket offering in the works for regular bed, but nothing is available right now.

I don't think there is for the short box. There's not nearly as much room, and the 36 (I think?) gallon tank takes up pretty much the entire hole already. And having had a '17 PW, and valuing ground clearance, I wouldn't want one that hangs down any lower than the factory one anyway.

I believe there is/was an auxiliary one that can mount where the spare goes, if you move your spare into the box.

2020 2500 4:10 gearing. Every day driving 14-15 mpg average. Light to moderate throttle unless you pull up in the right lane aside me at a light. Then it’s 10mpg.

I average in town about 12.5 to 13, but I have a heavy foot, and big Nittos. On the highway, if I keep the cruise control on and don't speed, I average about 15.5-16. Towing my boat....10.

In my 2020 I get a good solid 8-9 around town. 16-17 hwy under 70. Bone stock. Traded in a 15 F150 5.0, the numbers were only slightly better.

2017 2500 PowerWagon 6.4, 35in tires, driven hard, empty and no towing. Long streches of flat highway hand calculated 12.2 mpg. In town, evic reading was down to 7 mpg before I hit the highway again.

Best mileage I have gotten with mine....14.1 MPG....that was hand calculated running empty through the North country in NYS. On average....12.5 to 13.0 MPG. Towing, with the new 5'ver, it seems like it got better mileage than towing the brick tow behind....not much, but a little better.

Mine is a heavy beast....

Truck just went over 22,000 klms. Mileage seems to be much better after 18,000. Just got my all time high last month at 19.2. This trip, about 450 miles on the tank, 18.7 mpg through the mountains from Hinton to Kelowna. Filled in Hinton, then Kelowna, still had 4 gallons in the tank, but the fill was 188 bucks, 1.699 a liter. All fills hand calculated. Evic consistently shows higher than actual most of the time but usually within .5 mpg.

2016 2500 Tradesman with the 6.4L & 6-speed auto/4.10 gears... I average about 12 mpg around town & 17-18 mpg on the highway. I run 70-75 psi in my tires (stock size). Mileage drops off 1-2 mpg once the switch to winter blend kicks in.

Hemi 6.4- 3:73- 6 Speed
Ram is notorious for falsifying computer generated mpg numbers. They been doing it for decades. My 2005 2500 did it too. I believe many of these numbers are not hand calculated. My 2016 6.4 with 3:73 bone stock wouldn’t get 17 mpg if I drive it downhill the entire time. I mostly feather the pedal and often drive using the fuel consumption bar not by speed. Best I ever saw was 15 mpg once (computer showed around 17.6) driving on a flat interstate no hills to speak of and no wind keeping it around 70 mph. If I drive around 75 I get around 13.5 highway. Yeah the 8 speed trans may help a little but not much.

I have the 6 speed with 4.10's and get around 16.5 hand calculated on the highway at 65-70. In town closer to 11-12. My numbers are all hand calculated. Here is a comparison of hand calculated to EVIC readout. Often not far off but every once in awhile it's a pretty big difference.

Left column is hand calculated. Right column is EVIC reading. This goes back to Nov 26, 2022 (I only put about 5000 miles on it a year)

Yeah it’s not every truck that gives false readings I should have clarified that but it’s a lot of them. Mine has never been closer than 1.2 mpg when I have checked it.

Every Ram I’ve ever owned (8) always showed 2-3 mpg higher on the display than the hand calculation.
