The AC in my truck is sometimes not blowing as cold on the vent to the left of the radio and the one next to the driver's door. This is not all the time. What might be the problem?

Have you confirmed the different temperatures with a thermometer? Don't use one of the IR/laser touchless thermometers, they're not accurate for moving air measurements.

Get yourself something like this:
Taylor Commercial Waterproof Digital Cooking Thermometer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00009WE45/
You can leave the probe cover on so the tip doesn't touch and effect the reading.

It could likely be the rear blend door actuator. PITA to replace / service as it is right between the firewall and heater box, so to get to it the dash has to be pulled.

A guy I work with has the reverse of this problem in his truck, cool but no heat on the pass side. Just re read your post, yours is the drivers side, im pretty sure thats a different actuator again, not sure where it is but above the gas pedal comes to mind.

Blend doors. Compressor. Low freon. You'd really need to have the system properly diagnosed to find out the failure. But if you're just going by feel, there may not be anything wrong at all. Unless of course one vent is coming out burning hot and one side is ice cold lol .

I can feel the vent to the left of the radio and the one by the drivers door isn't as cool as the others. Sometimes it is the same, sometimes it isn't.

Are you thinking about getting an inspection from your Ram dealer? If you end up going this route and need an additional layer of assistance while there, don't hesitate to connect with us. We're available via direct message and would be happy to help.

I am trying to figure out the problem without taking it in to a dealer. I can't afford to pay dealer prices.
