I have seen a lot of post about swapping gears and LSD. All had great info but it leaves me with unanswered question about what I want to do. So here's my question; What would it take for a 2012 with 3.92 to swap just the open diff to and lsd and keep the factory gears?

Thanks...

I talked to Matt at Moes about it and he said the LSD is about $600 if I remember correctly.
Mopar and aftermarket are about the same price.

actually a stock Auburn limited slip is $100 less than a Detroit True Trac

The big difference is the Auburn has a clutch engage that will eventually wear out,
a True Trac is a spring loaded helical gear engagement that will last forever
and needs no friction modifier fluid added to your gear oil.

But either one will require a total reset of gear/pinion depth, shims and pre-load and back lash adjustments
The anti-slip locker replaces the stock open carrier that the ring gear attaches to.

allow for almost as much as your parts for install labor
new crush sleeve and minor install kit/bearings may be required

I'm not sure anyone is making aftermarket lockers/limited slips for 2012's yet,
So you may be limited to a Mopar 2012 LSD to minimize costs of re-installing your stock ring gear.

something about bolt holes and/or gear thickness on the new ZF rear diffs not matching aftermarket lockers and gear sets.

From what I've gathered, on a 2012 you'll need a factory LSD and new axle shaft. Around $850 plus install.

Thanks for the info guys, I guess it will be longer then I originally thought to get a LSD. Maybe I'll move on to a torque converter and save the LSD for last.

is it at all possible to add LSD to the front? or maybe even a full locker? i probably wouldn't do it but would feel good knowing the option is there

Only if you have a HD (2500 0r 3500) Ram with a solid front axle.
IFS Ram's front diff is a light weight aluminum housing and not rated for the additional torque of a limited slip or locker.

Nobody is even making after market gears for 11's and up yet BTW

My truck came with 3.55 open diff. I picked up a whole rear end with 3.92 LSD with 5k miles for the wrecking yard for $550
