I have a 2016 ram that needs a new body control module. i found one used low mileage from another 16 ram,,, will this be plug and play ? as it was in a 2016 ram, will it learn any new options that the donor truck did not have that mine does have without being reprogrammed?

The BCM has to be flashed to the new truck. I don't know if you can pull one from another truck and do that, or if you have to by a new/refurbished one. The one on my last truck was $900 new, and $300 refurbed. I bought refurbed because the truck was 20 years old. And the flashing job was subbed out and cost another $150.

You can swap it right into your 2016, and use AlfaOBD to change the configuration to match yours. It doesn’t matter what options the donor truck has.
**NOTE FOR OTHERS (because this is posted in the 5th gen section)**- this can be easily done on a 4th gen, but swapping in a used BCM can not easily be done on a 5th gen or 2019+ HD Ram.

There are literally 100's of parameters in the BCM that can be changed. Those are hard points that the BCM has to have set and will not "learn".

I can only speculate, but you didn't ever copy your BCM contents to a file using AlfOBD, did you?

I have a 2016 5.7 also and can send you a copy of my BCM contents, if you need it. Of course, will need to be tweeked to what your truck is equipped with.
