Wouldn't it be great if these trucks came stock with an onboard OEM brake controller that would put out 10+ amps? The answer is yes, *********. It would be absolutely ******* fabulous.

Were you able to lock up brakes on the trailer?

No I couldn't lock them up. Even when cranked up to 14 gain. But they do work 10x better than with the OEM controller.

I've had the P3 controller for a few years now. Moved it from my old Silverado to my new Ram. It's always been really good no matter what trailer or how much weight I put behind the truck.

Have you looked at the brakes on the trailer to make sure they are adjusted correctly ?

Yes I did readjust them and clean them up. The previous owner seemed to over grease via the buddy bearings and pushed grease past the seals. So....I most likely need to change out the brake shoes etc. But nevertheless the P3 is working much better than the factory set up. I'd advise anyone towing heavy with a 2015 to go this route. I'll add a brake job to the trailer to my always growing list.

A feature that I like on the p3 is you can disable the trailer brakes when backing up. I don't believe that is an option on any of the big 3s itbc.

I believe Erica did her best but she hit the same walls we did at Chrysler. Remember when she came back to us and relayed that you can't measure the power on a PWM line. She was just telling us what she was told. When we challenged that claim, she went back to RAM engineering which started the conversation moving again.

I've kept all of the emails, voice mails, and my findings. Would love the opportunity to show all this to a jury.
So reading this thread has me concerned... do you know. Is anyone complaining that has a 2017 ram? I have a 17 ram 2500 6.4 hemi

Sitting at the dealership now with 20,300 on the clock. 5 updates to various computers and one of them is for the brake controller. I've been pleased with its performance up to now.....

So I've had the chance now to pull my fully loaded dump trailer and whatever the update was has allowed me to turn the gain down. I used to run it at 4 unloaded and up around 6 loaded. I've been able to drop both of those 1 point and it still feels like more braking output than before.

at least we have a positive response after the update was installed

After thinking about this I've never, in all my years of towing, have never found a reason to disable trailer brakes when backing (excluding a boat trailer with surge brakes). What scenario would you use this ability?

Do we need to go to the dealership for this update or is it pushed out to the truck

Yes, to the dealership for updates.

I tend to run my trailer brakes a little strong. I like to feel them pull on truck slightly. When backing up I find when it's not disabled and lightly touching brakes when backing up it tends to jerk a little. So I disable them and is all smooth. It just seems to smooth out the backing process all together with no influence from the trailer brakes. Just my opinion anyways. It's not for everyone.

P3 controllers are great. Had one in my 2010 Ford and it worked flawlessly. Towing my little 18' 3000# trailer with my 2015 1500, no problem. Factory controller works fine on that amount.
