So after some researching i ordered a bottle of collinite 845 insulator wax to try out. Ive read about as much as i can find on the stuff and it seems like it maybe a little tricky wax to work with? i got that i need to warm the bottle up in warm water first to make it easier to apply but anyone got any other tips from expierience for me with this stuff? Also would it be best to work with a DA polisher or do it by hand? thanks!

A guy named Waxmode on YouTube has a demo for Collinite 845. Might be useful

Apply in as thin a layer as you can possibly get. Its easier to get a consistent thin layer with DA than it is by hand. You dont need any cut with it, so use a finish pad. You might be better off applying a little right to the panel, spreading a little by dragging the pad around the panel (with the DA OFF) then use the DA at speed 2 to spread it evenly around a larger area. A little goes a long way, so it might take a bit of time to figure out just how much you should use for just how large an area.

DO NOT let it dry too long (finger swipe test - swipe your index finger through the layer of wax....if it leaves a smudgy streaky mark, the wax is not dry yet)

Its a great wax and will last a good amount of time, it can just be hard to work with initially and if you leave it too long.

Even better protection would be FleetWax (Collinite 876) but that can be even harder to work with.

Awesome thanks man. Yeah after researching wax's I decided to try this stuff to finish off my winter prep for my 4runner. I have a couple different really good wax's but they are more on the "show" side of the spectrum vs protection. Kept seeing this stuff can be tricky though and I'm by NO means a pro lol. Thanks again!

Definitely an underrated product. Not the best for looks, like you mentioned, but for winter protection its perfect.

Good luck!

I’ve been using it for 20 years. Best stuff i’ve Ever used. You won’t believe it when you get it wet or it rains!! Lasts a loooong time too. Cheap too!! Compared to other stuff one the market...

It’s a pain if you let it dry. I do 1/4 of my truck at a time...

Out of curiousity, do you apply by hand or machine?

and yes i was actually quit surprised how cheap a bottle was, i think its the "cheapest" wax i own now lol. Again, for all the awesome durability and protection reviews i saw i had to get some to finish off my winter prep with this stuff

The manufacturers of Collonite suggest you don't get it on your black trim/rubber mouldings because it might leave that chalky residue.

That's the only downside of it for me. I've accidentally gotten it on my black trim and had no issues removing it, but you can't apply it to the trim work like some of the other sealants allow for.

Try to mask off the trim before you wax. I just use painters tape.

Good idea. Yeah if it dries on your black plastic stuff it’s not coming off without A LOT of work. Tape is a good idea. I try not to go in too close on my flares and door handles. Still think for the money this is the best wax on the market. I put it on 2-4 times a year.

Literally getting ready to do it right now. Taping plastics off now as it warms up

Wow, very impressed with how little you use. Applied a few dabs to my MF applicator pad and was able to do the entire side of my 4runner without needing any more

Thanks guys for the tips! Everything went smoothly, actually looks better then I was expecting so that's a bonus! Soon as the weather will cooperate long enough for me to get the ram washed he's getting it next then done for the winter
