Do these trucks have a lot of def problems

Hi All, I am starting to think I made a mistake buying this 2014 ram 3500 diesel. Now at 37,800 miles I have a engine light on with a message saying to service the def system at the dealer?????? It is non-stop with this truck, does everyone have a lot of problems like this with their truck?? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, I hope the problems with this truck will end soon as I like the truck but not enough to keep having problems like this keep showing up. I hope they can get me in soon as I am sure it will start a count down to de-tune or something.

I did not mean i run a tuner, its stock. I meant I am sure the engine will go into a limp mode or something like that.

I think there is a recall on the DEF/SCR system on the '14 2500/3500 trucks. My buddy had his SCR, DEF injector and one of the sensors replaced. IIRC he said he got a recall notice, after that repair.

Thank you for the info. The dealer can't get me in for 2 weeks. I was told after 50 miles it will go into a 150 mile count down before its in limp mode. Should prove interesting as the truck is used in bad weather for getting around.

I had no issues with the DEF systems on any of my Cummins trucks. However, I live in Florida, and do not experience the cold like you guys up north.

are you doing mostly short runs? that will affect the regen process making the DEF useless.

I normally use the truck for towing my living quarters horse trailer, I towed it last week in between snow storms about 65 miles round trip on the hwy. It has been used for my wife getting to work and back do to bad weather this last month and it's about 13 miles one way.
