To unlock the door if your truck's battery dies.

EDIT to add: Or if the battery dies in your remote/fob, etc.
That said, with my 2014 Laramie, if I use the key the truck will
sound it's alarm, lights, horn, the whole deal.
There is no transponder in the mechanical key so my truck
acts like I am breaking in and stealing it.
So if your truck battery is good but the FOB has failed you should expect to generate a lot of attention.

Don't ask me how I know.

Dollar to donuts, the remote start button is in your keyfob, but there is no contact on the inlay
