Alright guys decided to do an experiment today since I'm getting my ground force springs in anyway. I decided to break down the factory springs/strut and try cutting them. The truck is a 2014 4x4 1500 quad cab. I've only seen one other person actually do this and gave very little info. Honestly at this point Im going to say no on cutting them to anyone who is interested in doing it. I say this because after you cut it the spring does not sit like it should at the top of the strut. From factory the last coil is wound a little more tight so that I fits in the groove. It will still fit it just doesn't seem like the safest thing to me. Even tho it has nowhere to go I just don't like it. Below are pics. First picture is the actual spring uncut. Next is the grove/rubber boot it sits in at the top. After cutting this is the issue. It is a hair too big for the groove. Next is how much I cut off . Not sure on the actual drop amount . And last is the final product. Looks killer. Going to ride this week on it and see how it does. Gf springs will be here this week and will go on. Any questions just ask and I'll try to help.

Props for doing this and creating a thread. Have you had a chance to ride it yet? You've got me curious! Did you measure the ground to the fender before and after?

Yeah I rode quit a bit on it yesterday. Honestly it sucks lol. It isn't bad on a smooth rode it rides like stock. But as soon as you hit a ruff road with bumps it sucks. I will say that it handles awsome I'm very suprised on that.

could very well be the spring, stiffer when shortened. Was there any play in the spring once you got the strut back together.

Yes lots of play that's what scared me. From factory the springs barley need to be compressed to break it down. After cutting it slides up and down the shock, you can move it alot and turn it anything. When I went to install it I aligned the bottom of the spring to the the correct position on the strut then slowly had someone lower the jack and I aligned the top. After that it doesn't move any. Im gonna ride for a few days jack it up and re check everything

there must not be too much travel left in the shock now, once compressed.

Check your bumpstops as well. You may just be riding on the stock bumpstops.

Truck looks great.

Gonna jack it up this weekend and take a look. Its not bad until you hit bad bumps or go over a bridge. It seems to bounce alot.

21d61bbe9ef2cdf4e42bb9c7056c8fa4.jpg riding on cut springs. Ride is not great. Removed factory bump stops helped a lot but still crappy. Still looking for the right drop but I want it to sit like this
