Do you regret not going with 4.56?

Umm. Instresting because one of my future mods will be gearing. I'm a 6 speed 2wd with 3.55 right now. I was thinking 4.56 but I didn't see anyone going with them in a 2wd

4.56 gears

Are you running the 1500 series Ram? If so, sounds like your trans has a slightly lower 6 gear than the 2500. With my 4.56's, I run 2300 rpm, same as you. Truly, if I was to only tow with the truck, would have considered going to something like a 4.88 or 5.16. Still would have cruised 80 at probably 2700 or something close. I'm sure that it livened up the acceleration for you. Towing, if you do, will be so much nicer as well. As for the new gears, suggest that you change the gear oil with in 1000 miles. Try to be a little easy on them as well until they "temper / wear in".

I'm totally satisfied with the 4.10s in my truck. I think they're a great all-around choice. I was doing 30 mph up a small grade in first gear last night , and mashed on it, with the TC off, and it broke loose. (BFG AT TA KOs, so obviously, not a sticky street tire) If I take it easy, I'm pretty sure that it'll get 20 mpg.

But if I was all about going fast, I'd definitely go 4.56. Then Headers, then a pulley, then red And blue lights in the mirrors.....

I have 4.56 and 34.7 tires if I was keeping stock tires or close I would go with 4.10 so you can still keep the rpm down a bit on highway. 4.56 with the 5/6 speed is really nice low end is amazing and power is where you need it all the way up.

i went from 3.21 to 3.92 and i guarantee i picked up half a second in the 1/4. if i had the extra money i woulda went with 4.10 to stay (wife) street able. if you throw in a stall converter you wouldnt care about 4.56.

minor hijack: I read in a 4wd thread that the axle ratios are already slightly different and hence the "part time" 4wd Lock. How does a gear change affect the 4wd?

bump! I'm confused on this - if you change gears in the rear, and the front/rear axle ratios are already slightly different, wouldn't you need to change gears for the front as well?

...coming from the sport car world learning about 4x4 is like learning to walk again lol
