I have been needing a bigger towing rig. So I bought a 2016 2500 with the 6.4L. Its nice but the damn TPS stuff is driving me nuts. Loved the 1500 but it struggled to pull the 30' trailer I have. You barley know the trailer is there with the new truck.

If anyone can link me to the instructions for fixing it I have access to an Autel. I did a search but there are so many garbage posts about it.

As much as I like the idea of a Cummins in a 2500, that 6.4 with a 4.10/8 would be hard to pass up.

Nice big rig. I wish I needed a 2500.....

Thanks, it took the wife having to pull the camper in the old truck to realize that we bought to much camper. She kept telling me we didn't need a bigger truck. I let her drive it in the mountains in NC and she barely made it an hour before she wouldn't drive it anymore.

Nice.
A 2500 for towing and a 1500 as your economy vehicle.

I wish I could keep the old truck wife is making me sell it. So I listed it for like $10k hoping no one would bother with it. But I have gotten like 40 calls on it now.

You did the same thing I did! Not sure what you mean by "TPS"? Do you mean TPMS?

Yes the tire pressure lights on the dashboard. That's probably the issue I am not searching for the correct term.

Ok......the old dreaded TPMS. Ok - so - there are threads on this but I'll cut to the point - on our HD trucks, apparently the NHTSA made manufacturers program their control modules to report low air pressure fault warning on tire pressures 10% lower than required when truck is FULLY LOADED.

In essence, the Feds are trying to dummy-proof tire pressures from people not changing air pressure based on loads. So - HD's have 65 psi front and 80 psi rear. Your low pressure warning comes on below 60 & 70 psi. They are forcing us to keep our tires at full pressure.

This is true. The problem is that there REALLY ARE so many stupid people out there. That's why the TPMS is so prevalent.
Have you ever noticed how many underinflated tires you see on vehicles everywhere?
If they were really forcing us they would mandate that our trucks go into "limp mode" when below the PSI threshold.
The TPMS light has been on in my dash I don't even notice it anymore. Maybe if it stays on long enough it will just burn out. ;)

Thanks I just assumed it was something I could adjust with the Autel like the lower and upper limit settings. Oh well I have gotten used to hitting the right arrow when I jump in the truck anyways.

I'm pretty sure you can set that with alphaOBD. Check the thread on that to see if it's adjustable using that on the 2500.

You can lower the tpms thresholds with alphaobd.

I have all 4 of mine set at 48 or 50 psi and run my tires at 54 psi. Huge difference over the stock settings

Is this "AlphaOBD" a specific device, or are there multiple manufacturers of it?

FYI
You need to get the specific OBD Link MX listed in that thread. The software is fussy about what it talks to. The software is around $50

There isn't a "Light Load" button? My '13 2500 had one, so when I was unloaded I didn't have to keep my baby 245s at 80 PSI.

I can't speak to other years, but I'd assume 14 on up 2500 the answer is no. There is no light load setting to alter the tpms thresholds.

Alpha obd is one option, there are a few others. 18 and up you need a special harness to unlock the enhanced security in place to alter the tpms thresholds.

14 on up, the rears turn on the tpms warning I believe at 64 psi, the fronts a little less.

The pita of it, is in order to get the light out, you have to inflate the rears to 80 psi, then deflate to what you want. It is super annoying to me.

I couldn't be happier with the alpha and the software owner is very helpful. I had some tech issues he helped me resolve.

As noted, the correct obd link is required. I tried to use an older hardwired version at first but it would not connect.
