Weather was nice this weekend so I had time to install some Rigid Ignite Backup lights I had ordered a while back. They have a diffused flood pattern and are 1000 lumens each. I have them wired to the trailer reverse lights thru a diode so I can also turn them on with my AEV switches if I need too.

I had an 8" light bar under the bumper hitch which was good but it was a spot beam and I really didn't like the looks of it hanging down plus it was little too bright and shined on my neighbors bedroom windows, they never complained but it bothered me.

I wanted some auxiliary backup lights, but I wanted them in a location that would be tucked away and not too noticeable when not in use. While searching I found these Rigid Ignite lights and they fit the dimension requirements of what I had in mind.

Lately I have added the rock lights and now these and they use small 22 gauge wires in a black sleeve. Once you cut it to length it can be a pain to try and “skin it back”. Just a tip I found if you cut it a little notch at the top edge you can peel it back like a banana.

Just a tip

Very very nice! I have been wanting to do similar. I want to put in the flush mount diffused backup lights by rigid (single row/4 LEDs). But something has been stopping me... I don’t know what... maybe the cutting my bumper, maybe the slightly higher price, maybe laziness... I don’t know.

But do those slip right into the holes in the hitch? All you had to do was drill the holes for mounting screws?

I see another project in the future. Did you drill holes for these and what size?

Thanks guys, yes you have to drill a 1-3/4" hole, plus two small holes for the #8 mounting bolts. It was kinda tough because that metal is 3/16 to 1/4 thick. It comes with 1/2" long bolts but they weren't quite long enough so I bought some 1" long bolts. Its a nice location for lights but wasn't easy lol

I want to know how you got a wrench on the nuts of the inside mounting bolt on each side...

I have the Curt Hitch adapter for my LED Brake and Back Up Bar. Did you tap the reverse and ground wire for these?

Haha ya that was a concern, worse case I would have drilled an access hole from the back but luckily I didn’t need too. If you look in the side view photo and look at the nut you’ll see the nut with a star washer. That washer is attached to the nut and when snug it grips and tightened without needing a wrench. Keep in mind this is a #8 screw so we’re talking inch pounds to torque it properly. That said, if I had thought it out more, I could have drilled/tapped the holes since the metal is so thick.

Yes I too have the curt adapter and yes I just tapped into the wires to make it easy but I also have a switch on the AEV pod to allow me to turn them on whenever I want. The diode prevents the power from backfeeding to either +12v source.

Disregard. I re read and saw you drilled a 1.75” hole.

Reading is fundamental.

That’s actually a really good location, it’s down low and under the bumper so it’s protected, perfect for hooking up a trailer at night or backing into a camping spot and during the day most people never notice it.

I really like how that looks. I gotta get me some Rigid ignites and do the same! Thanks for sharing.

I put LED bulbs in the cargo lights up on the cab. When I back up in the dark and turn the cargo lights on I can see behind quite a distance and very bright!
