Boy, I thought I would be able to quickly look up how to check the flexplate on my truck but, I haven't been able to find anything, anywhere that tells me how to properly do it. Can someone help me out, please? How can I check to see if the flexplate on my 2002 Ram 1500 4.7L SLT is in need of replacement? The engine is knocking to beat hell and I'm trying to pin down the issue. Rod knock, you say? Well, maybe. But I want to check out all possibilities. But I sure as hell don't want to pay for something that turns out NOT to be the problem. Thanks for your help, guys and gals.

There should be some kind of inspection plate so that you can get to the bolts.
This video I'm linking to sounds like the trouble you're having.
Not a pickup in the video, but same idea.

At the front of the transmission, there should be an Inspection Cover, remove the cover.

You should be able to see about 5 to 8 inches of the flex plate
Then the trick is to spin the engine about 6 inches at a time, until you have seen the whole flex plate using a flash light
