i have a 97 1500 5.9 2wd magnum with hp issues

i have had some issues with my baby but i figured out some so far . first i was having throttle issues.i would give it gas and it would feel like it would stall until you let off the gas pedal and then it would return to idle? i know strange right? well i noticed the fuel pump was making some weird noises.i replaced it and the truck ran great but still with some issues ie.. burns excessive oil and gas ,has a missfire somewhere(thinking injectors).and oil light flickers when it gets too low and gauge drops dead. now after putting 4 missing quarts of oil. the oil light still flickers when driven for a few mins. but only at a stop and in gear.if in N or P its fine or if im double footing it as if im trying to keep it from stalling which it doesnt do.....but id rather not blow my engine.

You probably have a blown plenum gasket and maybe some damage from running the engine so low on oil. Do the plenum fix and make sure you cat isn't clogged. Try resetting your computer by Unhooking your battery to reset your oil sensor. If not, you could try replacing your sensor but you may have to switch to a mechanical gauge to get a reliable reading.

Compression test, compression test, oil pressure check, oil pressure check.

Do those then worry about horsepower.

My guess is the plenum, if you refilled your oil and within just a few minutes the light came on and pressure was lower, maybe the sending unit?
When I got my truck at stoplights the check gauges light would come on and oil pressure would be at zero. Replaced sending unit, didn't fix anything. Ended up having a lot more engine problems due to running low oil pressure. Hopefully it isn't the same case with yours

How can I check the plenum? and oil pressure gauge reads good unless low on oil ,it actually flickers when stopped and has oil Once it's warm. So what was the fix

See thread in the engine/performance section for plenum. Mechanical oil gauge is best way toby accurate reading. And compression . spec should be in fsm...

It seems to run fine until I drive it and get it hot Then the gauge goes dead or bounces around.Is the plenum an easy fix.Oh and is the hughes repair kit a good one. If anyone knows.

Easy just a little time consuming. Hughes is what most people use.

I noticed today that it seems to have more power with overdrive off?but I feel slipping when I accelerate like going up a hill
