Hmmm, I knew 4.10's would be easier on gas. I'll be driving to and from work with my truck and half of that is interstate. It's about 300 miles one way to college (interstate). I do a lot of highway driving, I rarely tow or race, I do off-road...I'd like some power as well, but keep mileage at all possible. Looks like I have some thinking to do.

My vote is for 4.10 with the info you have provided. Same ratio I run now.

How does it run? Are you wanting more on ratio?

It works just fine for what I do with it and how it is built motor wise. I have had 3.92, 4.10 and 4.56 in my truck with various sizes of tires. 4.56 was great in the mountains never had to take it out of O/D but in the winter it would have a hard time hooking up in snow and ice, just spin. Towing with 4.56 was fine to get going but once up to speed out of O/D it would spin 2800+rpm that was not so enjoyable for a few reasons, sucked back the gas faster than I could put in it, loud as all heck.

So it comes down to how you use your truck and what you want out of it. I like the 4.10's and the 315/75r16 tires.

I figured since he always says those gears are awesome I'd get his opinion on them. But I didnt know what he had done to his motor. Now that I'm thinking more and seeing more info, 4.10's sounds better to me. I'm done hi jacking this thread, sorry OP.

Your best bet is to find a set of Dana 60's that have 4.10 in them already, these will come out a gas v8 2500, money well spent for many a reason.

I'd like to find a set or even a front Dana 60 but goodluck finding one around my area for under $1200. I almost bought a set of ORE 4.10 axles but I was waiting on dam pay pal account to open and I lost the deal. $800 for both axles from White Knuckle, if anyone knows him from other forums.

Gears 4.10 vs 4.56

The one thing I would research and take into account is the transmission gearing. Suspect you will see that the on the older Rams and probably even with GM and Ford, is that the final gearing is much lower on the older models. Google ("trans model" gearing). Then add in the larger tire diameter, and you can better tell where your engine will run rpm and power wise. Suspect, in the end, you will want the 4.10 though. The newer models, having approx. a 0.60 final drive can support the lower gearing.

My installs cost me nothing.

I have no problem getting dirty and I would love to learn how to do this. It's just that I don't have the resources or know anyone that's willing to take on this mod.
