Hey all.
First time making a post here but I'm a life long Mopar fan. I fell in love with them when I was a little boy and got the dodge Challenger with the HEMI sticking out of the hood match box car. OK enough rambling. I have a 2018 Ram Rebel and it Doesn't Have rain sensing wipers. How ever it dose have a little black box on the windshield by the passenger side of the rear view mirror. Can anyone tell me what it is for? Inclosed is a picture.

That's a tracking device ... J/K
The windshield dewpoint sensor is under that cover. You must have the dual automatic climate control. That sensor allows the HVAC system to direct airflow to the windshield if it's possibly fogged up(pretty smart).

Crash is right, that's for the humidity sensor, part of the dual zone, auto climate control setup.
Here is a picture of the interior mirror with cover removed.
Blue is humidity, red is the smartbeam (auto high) camera, and yellow is for the auto dimming feature 371933effd016ee7abec2dabaac76319.jpg

Maybe I don’t understand the difference in your wording between the yellow and the red. Are you saying the yellow is the ambient light sensor for the headlights to come on? I thought that was on the dash.

Sorry about that, I meant specifically for the mirror if it supports auto dimming. The small black globe near the front center of the dash is for standard auto headlights.

That makes more sense. Although I don’t know why they stopped putting it on the face of the mirror, so when you get hit with high beams at night from behind, it dims even more.

To be fair there is a sensor on both sides for that function!
Smartbeam uses it also to determine total area light
