Actually I was going to rob a battery from a 100 horse tractor that never hardly gets used. I think they have about that many amps lol

If it fits and load tests well, go for it. lol

Trucks are more important IMO.

Upon popping the hood before I bought it, I immediately noticed the long tube headers and full true dual exhaust. I want a 4 barrel carb!

Looks great. Still has the factory air cleaner housing on it.
What's the mileage?

Did you see my picture I posted in my thread? lol

Mileage is iffy. 300-400 thousand+ maybe... Engine leaks oil. It and the tranny were rebuilt recently.

I just had a thought. What if I mounted a second alternator where the a/c compressor is? Winner winner!

Why? Just adds friction. If you wanted a bigger alternator you could swap in a later model 90 or 100 amp unit.

My 89 has a bigger one on it. I'm probably gonna swap it for my audio system. I don't think the stock 73 alt can handle two sub's (I have a 2600 watt amp in the closet.) And I believe my 89 had a 180 watt amp. I put an aftermarket HD one on it.

Your truck likely has the 60 amp alternator like mine.

The later 90's drop right in from what I've been told and the even later 120s will fit with some massaging.

It was driven by some guy and then his 16 year old daugher drove it until she moved out... Then Kenny(a guy I know) bought it and had it for a few years and rarely drove it. And I got it saturday. It was all highway apparently. For the body and stuff to be so well intact. Usually they are completely rusted out.

As far as the engine and tranny... My '89 has a 318 with a 4 speed manual with 35,000 original miles on it. I may consider swapping that in, if I have problems

Well, I guess if it was driven fairly consistently for 20 years that's a good way to rack up the miles.

Mine was a shop truck for most of its life, so 82k is actual mileage in my case.

And don't ditch the 383!! Bore and stroke it!! Having a big block, you have something very special there. Don't change that.

I know big blocks are rare all... I really want that manual tranny... Could that be switched to this engine? I know I'll have to change a lot of stuff out. But I don't mind the work.

Also my 318 had heads and injectors and 360 injectors on the throttle body it was fun to drive. And got about 8-14 mpg depending on habits.

steering shaft your 73 is different is different than your 89. i think you would have to swap steering column and steering box to use the other type of steering shaft. you can make the newer denso alternators bolt in. i don't think small block brackets would work on a big block but you could try them.

I dunno, depends on what trans it was as to if you can get adapters for it or not.

The 383 with a 3.21 rear end and some mild engine work could get that I bet. And with more torque.
Or you could bore and stroke the crap out of it and make it a 400 stroker. :Good or Bad:
