Somebody tell me that's because the paint isn't good, and that this IS NOT common with these trucks?!

More pictures.

Is it truly new or slightly used? But no, that's not normal. It looks almost like there was no primer and the paint was applied straight to the bumper. Regardless, take it back to the dealership and see what they say. If you used a pressure washer and got right up on the paint, it still shouldn't do that.

Go back to the dealership. I asked because it does appear there was damage prior to the wash to that area.

It sure doesn't look like all that was just because the car wash.
Was there maybe a rock chip or something there before?

No, there was nothing. Just some bugs, which was why I was washing it.
I hadn't washed it in a while and the bugs are pretty much gone for the season now, so I wanted to get them all off the truck before going into fall/winter.

I washed it this morning at a touchless car wash joint on my way to work, then during lunch, noticed it didn't get them all off.

I stopped at a local place near my office to spray the rest off. I will admit the place had pretty high pressure, but I certainly didn't think it was enough to remove paint.

Looks like you got too close with the spray nozzle, lesson learned; never use a high pressure washer on your paint, this is why. Sorry, that really sux to learn the hard way.

Interesting it sucks I bet. But yeah it might of been the high pressure was too much and/or you had a chip that contributed to it all.

I'm sure if you would to take it to the dealership they would give you excuses why it was your fault it's worth a shot

Good luck

wonder if the high pressure would be fine on steel, but not plastic?

even the slightest nick and a power washer will strip the paint where the nick is. Had it happen to me on a 2006 LHS, it was an electric washer and not that powerful. Sorry man, hard way to learn

I've been using a high pressure washer to wash my vehicles for years and never once had my paint come off from it.

Yeah, that's my fear. They won't cover it because I used a pressure washer.
I really didn't want to buy a new metal bumper, but it looks like I might have to.

Just by looking at the pic it looks like some sort of damage prior to the paint missing. Could be a bad pic. But it's not normal to have paint fly off with pressure washer I have used them many of times. Although I stay back a fair distance pressure washers will strip concrete.

Yep...not normal.

A slight chip mark+high pressure water hose could definetly do that though.

That spot is easily bigger than any blemish on my 4yr old beater.

If you got close with it, like within inches, you're really risking it on any vehicle, period.

I was toying with the idea of putting a painted bumper on mine. But changed my mind. Just the painted upper valance alone is showing some wear at only 85,000 km, the steel bumper below it doesn't have a single mark. Now I'm kinda considering grabbing a chrome bumper from a 2500 and fabbing up a fit to my 1500. Best looking bumper in the entire RAM lineup IMO, wish they had just used that bumper for all models.
