Hmmm I might get some of that.
Today I ordered new vent window seals from 1AAuto, thanks Guys for the recommendation. :favorites13:
I was thinking about just caulking the leaky window but then decided it would be better to fix it right.

I also ordered new carpet in what looks like the original color. Paid extra for a thicker sound/heat proof backing so we'll see if I need the rolls of metal tape or not.

Good to hear! Make sure you document your vent window weather strip install. :favorites13:

you probably still want to clean and paint the floor with something water proof to make sure nothing rusts out.

Yeah, that's on my to do list among other things.

Hmmm I might get some of that.

I'll try to remember to take some pics. :)

Picked up a spare carburetor for the truck, another Quadrajet. I thought I could use it for spare parts but when I took a closer look its actually an 800 CFM. Maybe this will be the one I tinker with....:naughty:

800 cfm QJ? Dayum. lol
Might be a bit excessive for your 360, hell might not even works since that's probably for a 454.

Clean up that 800cfm Q-jet and I bet any chevy or mopar guy will want it for their muscle car if they're keeping original. Or keep it for yourself if you ever make the engine a bit more performance orientated.

I was thinking that for the way the engine sits now it would be too much but I might be swapping the stock heads for some Magnum RTs (Merc's). The thing is I need to figure out whether or not I would need to increase the displacement which I really don't want to do right now. I just ordered a book on performance Quadrajet builds, I'm definitely keeping it.:)

sweet. looks exactly like the rest of the truck. mint.

Just a small spot of surface rust under the handle and not a single dent. My Dad stored it in a safe spot.

MINT.

It only cost me a Day's labor. We found it after moving a mountain pots and pans.

at least you didn't have to buy a new one. it would probably be nearly impossible to paint one to match.

Awesome! I was wondering if it was the stocker since your paint scheme is a bit different compared to most trucks. :D

So, I'm planning on driving the truck pretty soon but there are a few more things I want to do first. I'm planning on replacing the fuel pump and fuel filter this weekend.

Also, the cold idle is still really rough. The carb is newly rebuilt but I haven't adjusted the fast idle yet. Its an electric choke so I believe I just need to bend the choke rod to make sure the butterfly is tightly closed when cold and adjust the fast idle screw. Sound right? When its warmed up it idles perfect.

I want to delete the smog pump since it is making noise.

If I've got this right, remove the belt, remove the pump and plug the holes in the exhsust manifold. Someone suggested using a coin and high temp silicone for a plug. Any better suggestions?

i would not worry too much about the cold idle being a bit rough as long as it stays running especially with how cold it has been in the winter. usually the choke is suppose to start opening and might it idle higher until you rev the engine to get it to kick down.

could always just remove the belt off the smog pump for now or remove the hose and ad some oil to it.

I think you're right about my idle. I started it tonight for the first time in over a month and with it being about 40° warmer it didn't seem nearly as rough. In fact I may have to adjust the idle speed up again since it seems lower than when I parked it.

i think there is even a idle speed adjustment for the choke or at least there is on my holley. it might be set too low. i think when cold and choke on you probably want it idling about 1500 or so rpm. warm weather definitely helps them run better. my 81 usually has a vacuum leak at the carb base plate until it is at operating temp. make for a fun start in the cold.

Yeah, I have a fast idle adjustment screw on this one too, I'm planning on going over everything on the carb tomorrow. I'm on the fence about the belts, they look OK but they have to be at least 20 years old. I'll probably replace 'em and use the old ones as spares.

Lol, do you need starter fluid to get that 81 going in the cold?
