Just did my third oil change at 22k miles on my 17 Ram 5.7 Hemi today. Been having that Hemi tick since new on and off at startup so I did a bunch of research on the forum and onlinie and chose to go with Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic 5w-20, Mopar #5038041AA SRT Oil Filter and Liqui Moly #2009 300ml additive. Wow is all I have to say! Put about 150 miles on it today and it now cold starts are so quiet and seems to run quieter too. I have not noticed any power increases yet but I am impressed as to how quiet it has become. The guy at the oil change shop said he has a few customers that do the same to there Ram trucks and all seem to swear by it. Going to see where this goes as to the next few weeks, will post here if any changes. Sounds like a new truck again!

I found the best delivered prices for all was on Amazon, here are the links for each.

That tick was just ******* me off!

I see so many questions on how to solve the problem but the answers always seem so vague. I thought this would help clear the air about solving this problem. Its working for me I hope it works well for others.

I have been using the SRT filter since new. Checked around and it is considered up there with the Royal Purple filters, they cost about the same so I just stayed with it. Here is a pic of the difference from the factory Mopar filter and the SRT one, worth the extra cash to me.

The SRT filters seem to do quite well. I used them for a bit on both my Ram and the wife's Jeep GC, both Hemis.

I tend to flip flop around on filters, try new (to me) ones now and then. I've used Royal Purple, K&N, Mopar SRT, Wix XP, Amsoil, and next change, I'm going to try Fram Ultra.
I would not hesitate to use Mopar SRT filters again.

It just goes to show how bad paper filters are, honestly I have zero clue why people still use them. srt and other spun microglass are the way to go.

Very much the same size as the factory oem filter just better filtering, better quality.

I bought the SRT filter for my 6.4 off a few recommendations. Its significantly larger in diameter than what the 6.4 normally takes. Also, the rubber gasket is a couple millimeters larger around. I think it would go on, but couldn't see risking it when Amsoil and RP both have exact fitments. I figured the 5.7 and 6.4 would run the same size oil filter?

Yes I run the SRT filter on my 2011 Ram with 5.7 Hemi. 8K OCI no worries.

I wish I was that lucky. Tried Mobil 1 and there filter with my first oil change and the noise actually got louder. The problem is in the design of the engine block. Its hit and miss in what casting each of us get, some get the Hemi tick right from new and some never get it at all. It really sucks.

Beautiful Ram, love the red!

Was your tick only on cold start or was it warm idle too? I wish there was an end all solution. I’m considering trying the same thing you are doing to see if I notice a difference over redline 5w30.

Mostly on cold start, not all the time but enough to **** me off. Once in a while when warm, who knows why. I think the Redline oil would have also been a great choice as there is much more Moly in there oil but I am not willing to buy stock in that company every time I perform a oil change on my Ram. :)

Ya I agree it’s not cheap. That’s why I’m always interested in people who may be into a cheaper more readily available solution.

Any video of the sound of your tick?
