We travel light so to setup camp only takes about 15-30 minutes that includes making the bed

The day we seen the old Momma and her 2 cubs, there was a young couple from England riding bikes ,and the young gal was freaking out about the bears in the ditch,so i folded the tonnue cover up and threw them and their bikes in the truck and hauled them up to the top of Highwood Pass ,where we were turning around, and they were the most grateful young English couple i'd ever ran into, lol. The locals in Waterton
I'm a bit north east of you in Alberta, and we have Momma Grizzlies and their cubs wandering around in the ditches once you get into the hills, lol
We have them too, lol. Nothing cuter then a little black bear cub in the spring when they run across the road in front of you, high tailing it to where momma bear isYep reasons guns and camping go together lol. All we have in my part of oregon is black bear and cougars. If I lived up there I would have smith 500 on my hip in the woods lol

That’s the way to do it! My bed area has two drawer pull outs and we use an Amazon 6” memory foam mattress. It’s all used wood and I did it on the cheap and lived with it, taking notes on future improvements for us. I say build something with what you have and tweak accordingly! BUT keep the wifey happyI agree that a good bed is important so is heat or a/c depending on where you live. For me and the missus comfort is key otherwise she might not want to go. I am also on a budget now so I build what I want but can’t afford.
Any pictures of your bed setup? I’ve been thinking about building a deck so I can slide plastic bins under for storage and use a foam mattress or air mattress on top of it.That’s the way to do it! That’s where I started too! I have a cab hight topper so I ended up not having enough head room so I build something a little lower. I have the bed rug so what you see has no sliders or wheels…I just muscle it in and out. Right now I’m using one side for tools, air components, water components, hammocks and chairs. The other side we pack our(family of 5) cloths and camp kitchen items.Any pictures of your bed setup? That’s awesome. Definitely makes me want to move forward with that deck idea I have. I want to build a slot in it for my Blackstone griddle. Have one side for kitchen. My bed canopy actually leaves quite a bit of room. That’s where I started too! I have a cab hight topper so I ended up not having enough head room so I build something a little lower.
