I’ve got a 2011 5.7 hemi that I have sent to 15 different mechanics and no one seems to be able to get the p0420 code off my truck followed by a p0306 occasional code the motor was rebuilt in March by someone that’s supposed to be a hemi specialist and leaving the shop the check engine light came on. They’ve replaced the cats the O2 sensors and still same code as always. I’ve been fighting this code for 3 yrs please someone help me

There is a potential fix, dunno if it will work, i will try and find it. It involves moving the sensor farther away from the Cat's flow. So the engine runs fine? No issues at all with that misfire?

If you wanna try you can use laquer thinner or other cataclean products where you can possibly clean the convertor and clean the code, or move the sensor, plenty of moves here. Again search youtube clean catalytic converters.

Just add those to a tank of gas, I would do it only 1/2 full tank.

Since the engine was rebuilt and I assume the mechanic had the engine running well, it may just be he used the old Cat, you wouldnt think to clean the Cat. When were the cats replaced, after the engine rebuild? In theory if you clean it with a cleaner, you can even pull the sensor and clean it and the cat vertor with the same stuff sea foam or some cat cleaner, you will be fine. It could be the old engine wasnt running good causing this but this was never addressed. If the cats were replaced after the rebuild, I would use the first fix and not the cleaner.

They put new cats on it right before the rebuild and replaced the O2 sensors 2 times after the rebuild. I had a guy tell me the other day that mopar cats had to be replaced with mopar cats and that aftermarket cats wouldn’t work but dang I don’t really wanna even price those.

Was it a total rebuild or just the top end? Did new o2 sensors work for a while? They didnt give you the old cats?

If you have been driving it for 3 years and it drives fine I would keep driving it till it F's up something I can actually find and fix.

Guys get way too fixated on codes that make zero difference to performance or how it runs.

If they replaced the O2 sensors with anything but OEM, this can cause the problem. Rebuilt my 14' 5.7 and worked like new, but soon the new Bosch O2 sensor started causing crap. Changed it back to the original and haven't had any issues since. The P0420 is Sensor 1 (Upstream) it's not the cats.

just on an odd ball chance that the o2 sensors are correct for each position, OfCourse there are 4 but two have different part numbers and make sure they are in the position they are intended for , mixing them up will send the wrong infor to the ecm and could cause the engine light on , and relate to this problem
