Hi All,

I was reading a different thread on here (sorry, I forget which) and they were talking about RAM prices increasing by a lot. I guess I hadn't really paid attention so I went and looked at my 2021 1500 BigHorn's MSRP listing on my window sticker and then compared a 2023 RAM 1500 at a local dealer. I almost choked when I realized that the price jumped by 25%! My base MSRP was just under $40k ($39k + change). The new one was listed at just under $50k. MSRP. Before options. Wow. Just wow.

I haven't looked but is this pretty much the standard now across most trucks? Did all the manufacturers just decide to collude one day and raise everything 25%?

Everyone is crying because they think they aren't getting paid enough for their value. Raise salaries prices go up. Pretty simple. If a worker at McDonalds is going to get a 100% raise from $7.50 to $15.00 that drives other salaries up and a pickup costs $50,000.

You've been living under a rock huh? Lol. Prices of everything continue to climb, most everything is up at least 25% from where it was 2 years ago, sometimes 50-75% even. All of our part prices at work have gone up at least 40% thanks to Covid related issues i.e. steel prices/labor prices/transport prices have all soared

There's a significant difference between a 25% jump in price with a cup of coffee to a 25% jump in the cost of a vehicle. Obviously I've noticed how everything is more expensive. I guess I'm going to just keep my truck forever because as much as I love it, it's not worth a 25% premium to get a newer one at some point. I guess time will tell.

Supply/demand. Supply was (and is) restricted. Demand remained steady or increased. Inevitably this means prices rise. Look at people paying huge amounts of ADM, meaning the manufacturer left money on the table since people were willing to buy at the dealer's inflated price...

In Oct 1999, I paid $21,400 out the door for my Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4. This 2500 RAM I bought this year was 225% more...and this one is only a 2wd base model.

I get that but you're also talking about a 24 year gap between the two. I bought my truck a year and a half ago and it now costs 25% more to get the exact same truck. Just more of the same insanity taking over everything I guess.

You may want to check feature to feature on the trucks. Ram has consolidated their ordering options, making some things stock now that used to be options. Or at least that's true of the HD trucks. For example, painted bumpers are now standard on some upper trim level HD's.

Not saying the prices have not gone up, but might be worth a closer look.

Camaro SS in 2002 32K, in todays dollars it is $54, or about the price of a 2SS Camaro today.

Ram 4x4 Quad in 2002 started at $26K or $44K in todays money. What does a RAM 4x4 Quad start out now? Or better yet, what RAM 4x4 do you get today for $44K - looks like somewhere between a tradesman and a Big Horn

2006 Dodge Ram SRT-10 · MSRP $47,605 - $51,810 or about $70k today

Not totally linear but we have not had a goofy jump in a while and seems we were due.

I think everyone is missing the BIG picture here. Prices have gone up..but the BIG BOYs in Corperate world are still making those 6-7 figure profit salaries. Come a time folks are going to have to say NO..do not buy..really ...and if you need to ....buy from a person to person sale not a dealership. It would take a conserted effort but the pressure with some media exposure might drop those STUPID price numbers...FYI went shopping for tire..some ordinary 275 60R20..researched around town...over $1700 best price..that is just robbery!

You're not even going to get a Tradesman 4x4 Regular cab base model with almost no options for anywhere near $44k.

The 2024 tradesman 4x4 Quad starts at just under 44K. Big Horn 4x4 Quad is just under $49K. The 2024 Tradesman Quar 2x4 is $39K

I looked at 2023 prices in my earlier post. All I am saying is, that it is tracking a lot closer than some of you all are making it out to be. Inflation is up, no doubt. But look at history and the trends.

McDonalds and other places like that aren't all making $15 an hour. Not sure even in CA. They just raised the minimum wage here in NV 2 weeks ago to $11.25 while a Big Mac has gone way up for months now.

In & Out been paying more than $11.25 for years now so I'm not buying that as a reason. It's just greed.

Eggs were expensive as sh*t for a while ($8.00) til nobody was buying them and now here they are $1.29 again.
No way I'm buying a new car these days with those prices.

Agree...if we don't buy them, they will come down. I saw a Rapter on a lot with a market mark up of 25k....lol, wtf. Rams have a 10k markup. Not that I'd ever consider paying the markup. Its just ridiculous and greedy

I am a multi unit Mgr for Panera in FL. When I started in 2015, I recruited new hires at $10.50/11 an hr. We hire in at $15 now. No exaggeration. Food cost is out of control and our margins are thin.
