I can sum up this summer oil thread for you. Many folk are running 5-30 redline and have successfully quited the hemi tick. That being said, I use 5-20 pup and my engine is smooth and quite.
Pretty much it's how far out if the box you feel safe going. Some are worried about ms6395, some are worried about name brand, some are worried about a specific viscosity, some are worried about what FCA says. For me it's what runs quiet and smooth, good oil pressure and temperature. I'm currently running M1 EP 5/20 that the only thing it meets is recommended viscosity and it's the quietest and smoothest my Hemi has ever ran, so much so that I'm really questioning myself if I want to put the Amsoil SS in that I already have on the shelf for my next oil change or just stay with the M1 and use the Amsoil for the wife's van and see how it does in there. Not knocking anyone for what they use or try, if it works for you, go for it.

Update. I've been running the 0w40 and SRT filter for two days. My motor is ALOT quieter. I run a 170* t-stat so my motor pretty much runs at 185*. My oil pressure at idle is around 48psi. So my pressure is up about 10psi. I will do a analysis my next oil change.

What is you're oil pressure at speed? Haven't heard that anyone knows for sure but it's been tossed around that the bypass valve opens at or around 60 psi.

It seems to be between 56psi to 58 psi. Does anyone know for sure when the bypass opens?

Just read a few articles on the SRT filter and the viper v10. Guys where saying a viper on cold start could be 100 psi. So I doubt this filter bypasses at 60. Even the write up from mopar says it has a higher bypass. I think I'm fine.

According to Ram, "normal" oil pressure is between 4-110psi.

SRT engineers have said the filter itself is perfectly fine to run on all the Hemis. They just didn't say anything about the 0-40. But looks like some have had good results.

What is your oil pressure at 213 degrees or higher in drive while you are stopped?
I have a 170* thermostat in and I have my fans kick on at 196*. I pretty much stay at 185*. I wanted to get a pic of my gauges today but forgot. At 185* going 60 mph my oil pressure was at 52 psi. At idle it only dropped to 48 psi. And when I went wide open throttle it went to 63 psi. So I'm thinking the pressures are all good.
One thing I'm a little concerned about is I got some tapping today on a start. I went in to the food store for about a hour. So when it stops raining I'm gonna go out and see if it does it again. It sounded like my exhaust bolts though. Weird timing though I change to a different oil then the tapping.

Just from reading other people's experiments and my own usage I'm thinking the 5.7 is better suited to the 5/20 5/30 range of oil. Oil brand is debatable but oil weight I believe to be in this area..

I am surprised by the jump in oil pressure as thats pretty high at idle.
Makes me wonder if a mix of 5w30 and 0w40 might be better. ?

I ran 5w30 and my motor really liked it , I have a mix of 4qts 10w30 and 3qts 5w30 in now and cant tell any difference, motor is still quiet, smooth and oil pressure is pretty much the same.

I was talking to one of the mechanics, and I use that word loosely, at one of my deliveries today and he said that they have had several people come in there that engine was throwing a code for the wrong weight oil. I ask him what they were running because the experiments on here have been all over the place and no one has had a cel. I would have thought they would have ask what weight they had in there but they didn't. Just makes me wander if it happened at all or just an old wives tale.

Sorry, I mean oil temp of 213 degrees or higher. That seems to be when my oil pressure is the lowest. In drive stopped at a light mine is 40 psi running straight PUP 5W30. I haven't looked to see what the psi is at when idling in neutral. I will have a look tomorrow when I am in it.

When you stopped at the store was it a short trip to get there? It is pretty common for the 5.7 to tap on start up if the previous start was a really short trip and the truck didn't warm up fully.

Yea I am very familiar with the start up tap and exhaust bolts. This sounds like my passenger side bolts finally went. My oil never gets to 212* any more cause of the cooler thermostat.

Sometimes part failures can coincide with "mods" and it sucks but nothing more than a bad coincidence. 2013/14 seem some of the higher years for the bolt failures. May be just the age of the vehicle catching up.

Yea my Ram has 56hard thousand miles on her. I know the bolts are infamous for breaking. I can't get it in to the dealer for another 2 weeks. Their all booked up.
