Rear end and transfer case failure? 2000 1500 5.9 4x4

Earlier today I was getting on the freeway I heard and felt a few bad clunks,then my truck wouldn't go.i coated to the side,and went to put in park and it grinded when putting in park.i tried moving the transfer case into 4x4 and back,but nothing.even when I put in park,it didn't engage into park so it would roll untill I put on the e brake..I had it towed home and a while later,I noticed the right wheel was coming out of the differential.so I'm sure the rear end is trashed. But why wouldn't it try to move when I put it into 4wd? Could my t-case gotten messed up also?

need to change the fluid for my transfer case, & inspect it. what should i look for?

the previous owner was rough, we rode together once, he was playing with the transfer case selector lever
while our road speed was way too fast, like over 40 mph, it was grinding.

anywaythis is my very first vehicle with a transfer case, need to get educated
