Ha ha a 2011 5.7L says 5w-30 a 2012 calls for 5w-20 .... figure that one out ...C.A.F.E.

Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

The 5-30 for the 5.7 would be in the 2500 non MDS engine, 5-20. For the 1500 MDS engine ? My 11 1500 manual clearly stated 5-20. Excuse if this doesn't fit the conversation, had some surgery last week and the meds are taking effect.

Been doing some reading on redline oil. The 5/20 that's recommended for our 5.7 is not Dexos1 rated. Now the 5/30 is so even if redline decides to update the 5/30 to Dexos1 Gen2 could there be a possibility that they will leave the 5/20 alone?

I do not like ANY 20w oil. But you have to give credit were its due. 20w redline cured Burla's tick.

Well that's what I was kinda getting at. If this Dexos1 Gen2 winds up destroying a good formula maybe our only way to go would be to mix 5/20 and 5/40 to make something workable.

Why mix 20w and 40w. Just use 5w30 that is the perfect oil for the 5.7

IMO

Edit: unless your chasing an additive.

Any suggestions on OCI with 5w20 PUP and Fram Ultra filter? Truck sees mostly highway miles.

Forums are the worst place to ask about oil, not one person on this thread is qualified to give you oil advice, just opinions and a handful of Used oil reports. Lucky for you there is a Mechanical engineer testing oil and it's all posted online. As of today 206 oils tested against one another, and he has a questions and answers section were you can ask a qualified professional oil advice. Check out the link:

Wow, I am going to add oil to my list of topics to avoid discussing in a social setting. People appear to be polarized and passionate about their oil. Politics, religion, and oil, but not necessarily in that order....

Your not going to miss Anything, 95% of what is on this thread is Hogwash. Good thing for us is there is some oil testing being done that is based in physics and chemistry; the Truth. Check out the link and freely scroll through 206 oils tested and a tone of other topics.

Redline 5w30 has been tested for its Anti-wear performance and is in 83rd place out of 206 oils tested. Every UOA I've seen of RL has very high wear numbers, it might cure the tick, but if the trade off is high wear not sure thats a good idea.
You can check out the link and see Redlines performance for yourself. You can also freely scroll through 206 oils testing data and choose an oil base on professional, controlled and consisted testing.

We can only help those who follow the "Experiences" of forum members, those who wish to follow the advice of those who bash the experiences because they themselves feel they know better, get what they get. Hopefully it works for them and thus adds to the knowledge base around here. But this one person who continues to tell us we are full of ****, should be on every regulars ignore list. The wealth in this thread goes way beyond a couple uoa's, it comes from serious white papers, testing, and forum success's and defeats. I'm not sadistic enough to continue to chat with the downers of the thread, just add them to ignore list and move on. Let them make their points if they so wish, some of them are valid. It is for every forum member to gather info and decide for themselves. Personally, I would take all of the info in this thread Pre rat540 over anything that fool has to say, lol. But again, that is a choice oil info seekers need to make for themselves.

This my FRIENDS....is what makes this oil thread different than ANY other. We share factual sourced info, give OPINIONS, and share our experience.

WE DO NOT....tell you what to do.... like some others

Met a guy today who had a jeep with the 5.7L , it sounded like a damn Cummings under the hood , I asked him what oil he used and he said " whatever the dealer puts in " LOL
He had 38k on his jeep & had just got an oil change the week before ....we checked his oil level and it wasn't even touching the dip stick !
I told him about Redline , then he listen to my 5.7L with 50k which is quiet as a church mouse ... he was ordering 2 gals of 5W-30 Redline & a RP 10-48 filter on his phone as I was leaving with a Utility trailer that I bought from him ....

How can any oil guy not like what Redline does? Only if they work for a competitor. The only otc time tested PAO/Ester base oil available. I would absolutely love to hear if there are others, but I haven't heard of them. The moly/zinc levels is just a bonus. Every other company puts profits over quality. Redline's philosophy, if we build the best possible oil we know how to, they will come.

Saw 2 cars on 2 different levels of a parking structure yesterday with these same exact chalk markings on the tires to the ground. Like they are watching for movement or something?

Anyone see this before?. Really odd.

And there is a second set like from the car before this one. One has 7 lines and the current car has 9... and this was within 2 hours because it wasn't there when we parked
