ok but consider this, from Bob himself, viscosity is film strength. Now, yes there are such things on the margins that violate that, but in general any 40 weight with plenty of Vii's will protect metal better then most 30 weights. So if you grade the oil that way, 0w40's kick ass. That is why I call it super class, it is a class that defy's the rules and was built for modern engines.

And I don't really disagree with you, I prefer no or low vii's. If my application called for 0w40, I would run 10w30 Redline myself. But most oils don't have the additive package as redline in 30 weights thanks to our gov't.

I actually like that the PML uses RTV and i like the mopar RTV. Yes its a little more involved and not a simple but I feal if it is done correctly it will be more leakproof than an O-Ring. JMO though

The Right Stuff is the best RTV ever! Mopar is just fun but takes too long.

Ok let me say this. If I was going to run redline it would not be 0W unless it was absolutely needed as there are WAY better options in that lineup.

If I was going to run something other than redline it would be 0W...

So Jeff, just go look up a bunch of 40 weights, 0w40, 5w40, and 10w40. Look on the tech sheets for kinetic viscosity @100C, that is what matters to you-operating temps. You value a "thicker" oil because of the heat, and what I am trying to say is Amsoil SS is one. It is likely thick as most other 10w40's at operating temps. For some reason you are conflating winter rating with thickness, that is a mis thought. You can have a zero rating AND a thick ass oil under heat and load.

However, one thing that happened is the high mileage class choose 10w40 for most of their oils. Only due to this "high mileage" designation do 10w40's go even thicker. The 5w40's are really not high mileage class, so look those up. Those tend to be diesel weights, and I bet Amsoil SS 0w40 is as thick as most of those.
I know you're talking 6.4's and 40 wt but what about a 0/30 in a 5.7? What's you're thoughts on that?

For sure, and you only have to read one page here to know I wouldn't be recommending something thinner then the manu suggests ever.

Thanks the the input guys, I’ve read some tech sheets and 0/40 is really a pretty stout oil. I have decided based on what I’ve read and what y’all have enlightened me on, will be Amsoil SS 0W-40. I will post up a VOA and some UOA’s as I get some mileage on it.

Thanks again for always having the real answers and not feeding me a line of crap! Like the damn dealer tried to!

Your VOAs should look very similar to mine, although mine are all on the old formula. It'll be interesting to see what actually changes. They are posted in the Blackstone thread. I really hope that thread populates with many different oils/weights/brands. If anyone has any they haven't posted, please do! Nothing better than hard numbers to look at. Well... within these walls anyhow.

Thanks brother! I will as I get them. Hey 6” or 8” drop weigh safe? I love that it’s Aluminium!

I almost went with the 6" but I'm glad I didn't. With my race trailer, I'm one hole up from the bottom with the 8" drop. That's after I put the 35s on. This is from my ordered items on Amazon. If you don't end up getting it from there, make sure you get the 2.5" shank so you don't have to use the sleeve.

Corey if what was in that link is true, maybe Amsoil will last longer at fighting tick in your truck. They say they use a more shear stable Vii in the new formula.

Gonna give SS 5w30 a shot soon. The 220+ moly gives me hope. If my truck doesn't like it again I want to give Redline some time to quiet it up before I go to CO...

Brandon: For the front Differential——> If you tow a lot in 4WD or just use your 4WD a lot for extended periods of time? My own recommendation would be RL 75W-110.
If not? RL 75W-90 will work perfectly.

For the rearend: only time I would run 75W-90 is if I never towed & just used the truck as a simple daily driver.
Now if you work the truck? With some towing or a lot of medium/heavy towing I would use either RL 75W-110 or 140 for heavy towing.

Amsoil severe gear is a very Stout/Robust gear oil I would not hesitate to use either but I can get RL cheaper.

You have a good plan: Me personally I would stick with it.

I myself have an idea to use RL 75W-110 / 140 combo in the rear since I will only be towing Only during the summer months.
Maybe with the aftermarket cover (run 3qts 110 & 1qt 140).
Just me thinking out loud. 140 is thick stuff @ 0°F- 32°F.

I only wish I could or have the ambition to install a digital readout thermometer gauge or temperature gauge for the rearend oil that way I could experiment with different viscositys while towing during the summer months that would be kind of cool.
But as for now I can only trust that RL 110\140 will protect my expensive investment while towing during the summer months.

I do have a very nice laser thermometer gun that I can shoot the rearend cover (after towing) to get a decent reading of temperature. I will keep this in the glove box at all time especially during the summer just to keep track of how hot the rearend is getting.

So far I agree 110 % with SyN ...... I've learned over the past he " SyN" does go back and edit his post ...LOL.!

I reserve the right to change my like in a whim ......but I doubt it as I agree with 99.99% of pretty much everything that my friend SyN says ......

SyN is an abstract , awesome and analytical feller .,.... Not the normal guy ?

I think that's why I like him so much ...?

Thank you for the response I appreciate it. I do tow a lot in the summer. Nothing crazy boat and toys like side by side and quads. But usually about 4 to 10 hour trips 1 way. Up North and down to Kentucky. I picked up the red line from Nick @ gotexhaust. When my truck had the gears put in I had them install mag hytec front and rear diff covers. The rear holds approx 8 and the front 4.5 quarts. I will stick with the 75w90 in the front rarely tow with 4 wheel drive engaged. And I'll stick with 75w140 for the rear. I used royal purple in all my other trucks but seems like red line is on par with them. Thanks again.
Redline differential oil is on another planet compared to Royal P .

RPURPLE has a fantastic engine oil filter ...FoR THE 5.7 & 6.4 L HEMIN 100% synthetic spun microfiber media ... That beats every other filter in it's class hands down !! TO INCLUDE AMSOUL & FRAM ULTRA ...
The last time I checked the ROYAL PURPLE OIL was basically JUNCK ? ???

Jeff: remember this is me with my thoughts and ideas. Mine will probably be totally different than everybody else’s which I hope so.

My first choice with Amsoil would be the AZF signature series 0W-40.
After the 25,000 mile mark I would do a used oil analysis.
Then me being OLD school I love and will always will like a very stout robust 10W–30.
I myself then would run for the same amount of miles the ATM signature series 10W-30 and compare both analysis.

I might do this back-and-forth a few times until the 50,000 mile mark.
Just to achieve a set of accurate trends.

I’m not recommending you do this nor would I advise anybody else to this is what I would do.

If I was to do any amount of medium or heavy towing I would add maybe 2 quarts of the Z rod 10W-30 with the oil change along with the ATM 10W-30———> For the extra ZDDP protection

Once again I will throw in my SyN Disclaimer:
Hard to not like this feller ....SyN

No worries, just looking at what Amsoil has to offer as I’ve had good luck with them, but starting to consider other options as well.
