So you think something is wrong with my truck?
Over the Labor day Holiday September 3rd I went dove hunting in North Texas. Birckburnette to be exact. I left out on the 998 mile round trip with about 8100 miles on the oil.
Left Friday morning and came home Monday morning.
So almost 1000 miles 95% highway 65 to 75 mph.
Changed the oil about a month after I got back
Would that have anything to do with it.

NO, I don't think there is something wrong with your truck, I think the TAN level got to high that run. But that is an educated guess, not a fact. if you did a uoa at the 5k mile mark like h395 said, and the numbers were under 20 iron, then you just proved what I thought. But, if the numbers were 13ppm or higher per thousand miles, yes there could be an issue. This is not what I think, but must admit the possibility, until I see the next uoa. Sorry, sometimes I think out loud and it muks up stuff. I don't think you have a real problem, but it is possible you do.

lol ok gotcha.
So I'm just gonna do a oci this time at around 7500 again and do a uoa and add the tan and tbn test and go from there.

I hate posting this, these are my uoa's. So the truck had hemi tick and the numbers are all fked to hell, but why I am comfortable is because they are getting better. So if your numbers stay in the 24ppm range at 7500 miles, that is like great hemi wear. But if for some reason the iron trends up, make no mistake something is going on. We would have to put our heads together and figure out which hemi parts are iron and come up with a theory. But we aren't there yet. So I post this to make you feel better, but we need more info. I wished I just said Setex we need more info and just left it there, because there is no reason to worry until we find a reason to worry, so right now no reason to worry.

When the liometer tells you to or no more than 8000 miles.

Yes,

I understand it is a “liometer” but im just pointing out that i THINK it says 8,000 ( could be wrong) and generally in today’s world with today’s oils it is better to go LESS than what the manufacturer says for ANY fluid change interval.

Unless you are intentionally chasing long OCI’s with the appropriate oil and practices.

JMO

For example, trans at 60,000 is what the manual says for my truck if I remember correctly. That is to long IMO.

Coolant says 100,000 miles.. no way in hell would i wait that long.

I'm at just under 62000 miles and coolant is the last ff left. All other fluids have been flushed and changed.
It's next on the agenda. Probably after the first of the year.

Polaris, oil analizers, dyson, I'm sure there are others as well. I have to say I think this is the first mistake I've seen, I have an email in let's see what they say.

I would definitely take Burlas advice and do a 5,000 mile run and then do a UOA minus the TBN. It may even be necessary to do another 5,000 mile run after that to see if you can get control of that wear.

Either way, keep us posted.

Brula: Thanks for the e-mail, and yes, I'll be glad to look into this. I
took a look at the forum link and didn't see the report you are talking
about. Is it the one that was posted by Hemi395 on September 13th?

Sincerely,

I know I posted this Thirty-K oil awhile back but I got thinking about it again. I'm not a big fan of mixing different oil brands but 1-2 quarts of this oil will Boost the overall additive package.
Thoughts on mixing a few of these in?

Zinc – 1150 ppm
Molybdenum – 1106 ppm
Phosphorous -- 1605 ppm
Calcium – 2650 ppm
ASTM D874 – Sulfated Ash, 1.19
ASTM D445 -- V @ 40C, 73.2 cSt
ASTM D445 – V @100C, 11.8 cSt
ASTM D2270 – VI, 158
ASTM D92 – Flash Point, 242ºC
ASTM D97 – Pour Point, -39ºF
ASTM D2896 – TBN, 11.78
ASTM D5800 – NOACK Volatility, % weight loss, 1 hour @ 250ºC, 5.4%
ASTM D5481 – High Temperature/High Shear Viscosity @150ºC, cP, 3.9

It a true synthetic too.

MPT Thirty-K Full Synthetic High Performance Motor Oils are all comprised of 100% synthetic ester and polyalphaolefin basestocks with no highly refined petroleum (Group I, II or III) or viscosity modifiers. MPT Thirty-K Motor Oils are fortified with the finest additives available including extra zinc and phosphorous for anti-wear, as well as special friction modifiers such as molybdenum to ensure longer engine life, reduced heat and friction, and better fuel economy.

BS didn't get back to me today, we will see what happens.

We talked about MPT a long time ago, looks promising especially in hemi tick engines. Now available on Amazon for 15 a qrt. Is it good enough to get me off long time tested Redline, probably not but maybe. I don't like Redline going down in moly, any more monkeying with the formula maybe I would go MPT.

I just want to know more information. Do they blend base stock or by and add additives.

If they buy then im not as excited because they have less control over it.
