Ok heres what I want to do. I just ordered a used left and right cowl and I'm thinking of filling in the area's in the before so its smooth like the after then get that painted.

Or should I not do it, do those vents actually have a function?

Or I could I place something over them to cover them but are still functional.

Your thoughts please?

The vents do serve a purpose, I wouldn't fill them in. Painting the whole works has been done though, guy on another forum did it a while back:

those vents are where you get air for your hvac unit. you would have to find another way to get air for the system, what did that guy do in those pics?

As noted - The vents are for Cabin air bit, maybe you could fill them and then drill out a pattern of holes vs. the many slots?

Just depends on how functional vs pretty you want your truck to be.

They've been smoothing wiper cowls for years on C/K trucks where the grill serves the same purpose.

The main reason I want this filled in is I like clean and simple look and it would be easier to wax as well. Plus I'm having the door handles, side mirrors and grill frame painted as we speak.

I'm also considering painting the wiper arms but still not 100% yet.

Wiper arms were silver for years. Then Porsche decided to paint them black to reduce glare on the driver. Everyone followed suit.

If it's a show queen, some things are OK, but if it's a DD, they aren't. JMO.

I'm going to see what I can come up with just because I prefer the clean look. And for waxing purpose. Maybe if I can place some type of plastic over them cut to size maybe gouge out a small amount so air can still get in then have it molded in.

I've seen these but I don't like the bulk or look of it.

I didn't think of that one. Thank you, maybe I'll have them painted black instead.

He smoothed it, then painted it. Left the holes/slits open so it was still functional.

I found one on ebay with a reserve. It started at 25 buck so I put in my bid for 50 figured I would get out bid but didn't so not bad actually. I believe they run new 189 bucks.

Yes I've seen those and they look badass but I'm trying to keep the plain jane look on mine:D

Once I get the truck back and have everything installed I'll start a new thread.

You mean the stuff under the hood that holds it? They look like just the regular black christmas tree things.
