I mentioned the other day, that my 8.4 AN radio navigation was acting up

Then i was informed by going to the driveconnect website that i need to upgrade the radio from version 17.11.07 to 18.45.01

I avoided trying to do the upgrade myself

Then i went to have my 2016 Ram serviced & they attempted to do a radio update to 18.60.02-c2
I assume that it failed, because when i went into the menu & i still see 17.11.07
...............................................................

Today i attempted to download the 18.45.01 zip file
I think that i extracted that file to another file location

Now here is where i don't know if i did things correctly.
I am computer illiterate.

I inserted a thumb drive & saw there was a FILE called Vault.
I clicked on Vault & brought up a split screen along beside that other file location. Then clicked & dragged each of the 5 individual files, one at a time over to the Thumb drive Vault location.

What do i do to check if the 5 files were transferred correctly & in the correct place on the thumb drive

I don't want to insert the thumb drive into the USB port & brick the radio

I am not a computer expert but, you must unzip that file you downloaded. There are instructions on that site where you got the file.

I just took a Thumb drive out of the store packaging .

I never noticed any tutorial :(

I just downloaded the Zip file
Then i extracted the file to a file that i made
It was a 5 part file
I then inserted the Thumb drive into the slot
Then i clicked & dragged each of the 5 files to the Thumb drive

I sure hope that i did everything correctly, i don't want to attempt this all again

I have never done anything like this before & i don't like attempting it without having someone directing me as i do it the first time

I just noticed that those 5 files are scattered around in My Documents folder, where i don't think they belong
I deleted them, after checking the date to insure that they did not belong in there

If you don't want your computer to rearrange where the files go, create a new folder by right clicking on the desktop and click on New, then Folder.
Check the files you have in the thumb drive, you should only have these five:
checkswdl.bat
KaliSWDL.log
md5deep.exe
swdl.upd
swdl.upd.md5

If there is just those five files on the thumb drive and they're not in a folder or anything (know as in the root of the drive), you should be good to go.
just turn the ignition on and pop in the USB. You don't need to have the truck running

Not sure if this is still in play. The old thumbdrive were usually formatted in the FAT32 file system. I haven't bought a thumbdrive in a dozen years. I am not sure if the new thumbdrives come formatted in NFTS. And unless things have changed with the Radios will only read FAT32.

You can see how the drive is formatted by bringing up your file explorer (yellow folder icon), right click on the drive and choose properties. A popup will show you how it is formatted. I am using a work provided TD so I blued out the Volume name, but the current name should show up

If you need to reformat it in FAT32, right click on the drive name and choose format
The blued area should say the name as on the first popup

I don't think I've ever had a thumb drive formatted NTFS out of the box, partly due that iOS can't write to that file structure.
Thumb drives(or SD cards) up to 32G are usually FAT32, larger than that they'll be ExFAT but you can force format them to FAT32.
