I'm looking to get the chrome bumpers on my '16 Ram 1500 Big Horn (Granite Crystal) wrapped in 3M flat black vinyl. I know some posts have said that vinyl doesn't adhere well to chrome, but the installer I spoke with says it does with the proper prep work. Anyone ever had their bumpers wrapped? Any pics would be great.

Our wrap guy that does our cars doesn't recommend it, says it wont stick. So we have sanded them, epoxy primed them, and painted them when we needed to de-chrome.

I've been researching this for a while. While not to argue with GrayGroose's guy (I really have no idea), I have seen tons and tons of trucks that have done this and not one negative thing about it sticking.

I can't see how it would not hold up.... chrome would be the most suitable surface...along with glass, painted areas, any smooth and rigid surface is suitable for vinyl wrap.

Chrome gets wrapped all the time.

I'm probably gonna go with it and see what happens. It's only $200, so if I don't like it or if it fails, it's not the end of the world.

From all of the painters I've talked to, chrome is very difficult to paint unless it is prepped VERY good and also has a VERY good adhesion layer. I don't know much about wraps, but I would think that would be a better option. Just make sure, no matter if you paint or wrap, you find someone that will do it with a warranty.

I had a painter color match all my chrome emblems. 1 year later the paint started coming off. He warrantied his work for life. So he re-did them for free.

Metric Customs...Any information on the vinyl you used? Color? How much to buy? Or did you take it somewhere?

Hey I used Avery Vinyl wrap, gloss white. I did it myself and I want to say that the material for both costed me around $100 Canadian. I got it from ND Graphics here in Canada. It came in dimensions of 5 feet by however much you want length wise...

It takes a lot of patience to do though, lots of heating and stretching.

Did you remove the bumpers? I'm imagining yes... but is a pita to stretch when it's not attached.

How much material did you order?

The front bumper I left on, but the back bumper i took off and put it on two saw horses. They are both heavy enough that they shouldn't move too much when stretching if you prop them up good enough.

Make sure you use two people though, way easier for stretching/heating purposes

Reviving this dinosaur of a thread, sorry. I'm looking to wrap my front bumper and door handles. Found the ColorXLabs that wants $900 for 5ftx12ft of paint matched PW7 wrap! ouch!

Looked up what you used. https://www.metrorestyling.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=SW900-101-O

How does it match the factory color? Because that is my primary concern.
