Yeah, when mine stopped working, I just had the whole works torn out. I never actually use it anyway, I just would occasionally turn it on to keep the works from getting sour, which it did anyway. Freed up a lot of space under the hood and looks more...old school, especially with an open-element air cleaner.
I changed the oil and for the first time ever, the old gasket actually came off the filter and stuck to the block. My purposeful procedure of using the old oil from the old filter to lube the gasket on the new filter may have saved the day since I probably wouldn't have noticed otherwise. I do look around after starting the engine after I fill it with new oil so I may have caught on if I would have seen oil spraying all over the place, LOL. Either way, saved a lot of mess.
Then I gave the truck a nice wash. Grabbed a second sponge earlier this week so I had two buckets, one with soapy water, the other with clean. Was able to wash the entire truck in record time as a result. I need to get a bigger towel though. The two smallish ones that I have are too small for the job.
Then I drove the truck away from the big maple because I'm tired of washing the truck, then going out the next day and seeing it carpet bombed by the birds. Little ********...
