Replaced the fuel filter - it's been tough to start of late. Made little difference, but as crazzywolfie pointed out elsewhere, cheap-@$$ ethanol + driven very little = water in the fuel line. Gonna try and run this tankful out quickly (it has TWO cans of Seafoam in it currently) and find some PURE gas for the next fill-up. Especially since it'll see little driving over the winter!

Replaced the choke pull off and unjammed the secondary air flaps. Took the truck on its first long distance trip a couple weeks ago and on the way out it kicked down really hard, didn't realize the secondary air flaps were stuck partly open until we started home. 300 miles of very boggy driving but its all good now. :)

and it would do absolutely nothing by doing that. you need to pour the stuff in a vacuum line or else it will sit in your intake until it evaporate.

Was concerned about varnish buildup, with it being 23 years old, and having sat for 9 of those. Smoke started blowing when I pulled the PVC line and started squirting it in that line. The kegger liked it.

varnish build up? i think you actually have drive it occasionally for something like that to happen especially since i am pretty sure you had the plenum fixed at which point i would guess your mechanic cleaned the intake.

^ Nice haul.

Ordered a new alternator. Mine decided to take a dump halfway home from a hunting trip. Of course I have to wait 'til morning since nobody stocks one for a 30 year old truck. Was able to limp to a campground with electricity so at least I'll start with a fresh battery in the morning.

isn't it funny how we have talked about this in the past lol. if you avoid using your turn signal/brakes and headlights i am pretty sure you should have no problem getting your truck home with 2 full batteries and no alternator

If I was out in the wilderness that's one thing but if there's a Napa down the street I'm replacing it lol. That and I have to drive through the city so I'm betting I'll need both the signals and brakes.

Think I'm going to replace ALL the hoses this winter...

i didn't think people used signals or brake light in the city  lol. did you get the old alt tested? could possibly be just a bad connection or VR. you don't usually see the alternator itself go bad very often.

You're right who needs to signal. :roflsquared:
I can have it tested in the morning. The truck was losing power on the interstate, voltmeter jumping, burnt smell and black soot on the alt. Something is squealing under the hood when I hit the accelerator but since I was by myself I couldn't see what, assuming the bearings on the alt.

i would get it checked if you can. the stock amp gauges are not super accurate but if it was jumping and you smelt something burning then there might be a short somewhere. squealing might have just been a belt.

lol. that burning smell and not charging very well could have been the belt slipping pretty bad. didn't you replace all the belts? maybe you didn't quite snug things down as good as you should have or maybe the belt has just stretched. i know i have had to tighten the belt on my 81 a couple times since putting a brand new belt on it but i am running a 115amp alternator on 1 belt instead of 2 like it should have.

Yeah, 2 belts both brand new. I'll get it tightened up in the morning, looks like it might have slipped on the bracket. Can you tell I haven't driven one of these older trucks for a while? :roflsquared:

Went wheeling this weekend. Discovered my springpack eyebolts broke. Got BACK home safe, but still bummed.

Found out yesterday, that Nick rolled his buggy in the dark, and had to limp it back 4 miles to the trailer. Nobody hurt, but he's got a fixer-upper project now for the winter, too! icon11.gif
