What is this on the overhead console.

I just got a 2015 RAM 1500 Big Horn. Saw this on the overhead console, the circle that is depressed, looks like a camera or sensor. Sits between the garage door opener and the read sliding window controller.

It's an LED light. Lights up the console just enough at night.

As soon as I read the title, I knew what you were talking about lol.

It's big brother watching us...

or "a led light" I have never seen mine on, though I never looked to see it come on.

The led that shines on the console comes out the tiny opening to the rear of the rear slider switch. I did some looking around and I'm led to believe the camera looking deal between the garage switches and the slider switch is an infared camera for the auto climate control

Thank you, I know it was not the LED, I already found that one. I dont have the auto climate controls on the truck I do on my Dart though.

Hmm i dunno then. As far as I know thats what it is, can't really see it still being there without the auto temp, wouldn't make sense

I learn something new every day . I had to go check, you are right, it is not the console LED. Now you have me curious.

it has to do with an infrared temp sensor.. or in your case, the location where one may be installed.

No. It's a camera looking at you driving and listening to your every word. It is a part of the black box system of the vehicle and also can be used by authority against you if you text n drive, drive without seat belt on, etc etc... Don't believe me? Call Chrysler and ask. I black taped mine CAUSE I like my privacy!!!

the Light shines straight down thats for the auto climate. Mine is the same. Its just a blank if you had that option.

So far you guys are right and wrong. If your truck is 2012 or older that's where the infrared temperature sensor is, if equipped. If you have a 2013 and newer it's nothing, a blank spot left over from previous models. If you have a 2013+ and have the auto climate, the temp sensor is actually located on the steering column opening cover. If you look by your right knee you'll see slots in the cover, it's behind there.

Can't remember where in the manual I saw it but I believe it is an ambient light sensor. Possibly to dim or brighten the displays in the truck? I'll try to find where I saw that though.

The sun sensor is on the middle of the dash near the windshield. It controls the automatic headlights/dimming features. 2012 and older trucks had the infrared temp sensor in the roof console. In 2013 they changed, the infrared sensor is behind the column cover. The roof console didn't change so its just a blank spot now, there's nothing connected to it.
