Most diesels take 15/40w. Oil Companies have to add more improvers to get the 5 rating, improvers that will be torn apart under engine load anyhow, known as shear. Less improvers means you will have a stronger base oil, much needed since your oil change interval is 15k. It appears diesels are harder on oil because it gets so dirty so fast, but it is actually the opposite, they are easier on oil then gas engines.
Delvac ESP or
Rotella T6 are the two most popular, I think you can get Delvac conventional at Costco so it will be cheaper, but Rotella seams to have a stronger following. Both lines have non synthetic choices, I left you the
synthetic versions. Get synthetic filters like Amsoil, even better look into a bypass kit, changes your oil change interval drastically. Use Synthetic oil and filter, double the time you need to change your oil.
In before the move? I can only assume the OP is talking about a 2006, but same thing applies to most all diesels. CA additions are completely different, but I think they stopped making them by 2006, even a couple years earlier.
