Aux backup lights installed today

Finally had a moment to put some backup lights on the truck. Kept saying.....when its not blistering hot, and I have some time. The moons aligned today - 75 degrees out, I took advantage! :roflsquared:

Anyway, these are the same LED pods that I have hooked up as DRLs on the truck. We stock them on the site here, if anyone is interested in a very cheap and easy hookup for backup lights (or any aux lighting for that matter) - Morimoto x.DRLs / Backup lights

Mounted them to the bottom of the bumper. Thought about between the tailgate and bumper......but - just didn't like the idea. There was also a spot behind the back wheels I thought about, but too much light would be lost from that. I wanted the MOST light output - and this will do that!

Connections were very simple. I pulled the 7 pin connector off, tapped the middle wire (WT/RD) for the positive (thats the reverse wire on the 7 pin) and then grounded on the BK/GY wire. Got the wires out of the way, all done. Took about......25 minutes start to finish. :favorites13:

The WT/RD on the 7 pin connector is the reverse light? So much easier then pulling the tail lights. Need to wire mine up for reverse now.

yeah, the one right in the middle. White / Red.

I was getting ready to wire it up, dropped the tailgate, grabbed the tools ........ and went....... "drrrr, 7pin has it!" - saved some time there.

Same thing I did to my Cherokee, but I used some white driving lights I had bought many years ago for this same thing on my dually. Anyway, they work great, especially when coming out of the woods at night after a day of hunting. Really makes it easy to see what's behind you.

I hard wired mine in with a relay though at the passenger side tail-light.

I'm not sure they'd fit. Here are the overall dimensions:

Height: 28mm
Length: 160mm
Depth (front of LED to back of bracket): 37mm
Depth (front of LED to back of heat sink): 26mm
Depth (Just the heat sink): 14mm

I love mine. I ended up running a wire and have a switch to kick them on whenever necessary. I used to pull a trailer so it was handy at night.

Pic time!!

Went up to the warehouse, the first couple shots are about 40 ft away from the wall. Grabbed the wrong lens.....using my 35MM prime lens - so, a lot of stuff looks "closer" than it really is. Second grouping of them is where the trucks go to turn around and stuff, and there's a LOT of room back there.

through the closed window, 20% tint.

back window, open. So, the dark spots are 2 "windows" deep

Looks good! Now think about this, instead of running them off the trailer reverse light wire, run them off a powered relay and set it up to be activated by the trailer wire or a switch mounted in your bed (or spot of your choice). If you go camping or ever need to work around you truck a night just flip the switch and you have work lights too. Those LED can burn a long time without the truck on.
